Chicago has been making strides to accommodate more homes. But zoning changes could accelerate construction. We estimate that reforms legalizing small apartment buildings & enabling high densities near all transit stations could add ~10,000 additional units compared to baseline by 2041.

Vote early & drop off your ballots in person, so that this corrupt administration cannot have any opportunity to screw with your vote.
These numbers are telling. CBS News projects Democrats at 229 House seats to Republicans’ 206. Look at what voters are saying: • 65% say the economy is bad. • 57% say Trump’s policies have hurt them financially. • DON’T MISS THIS: 83% say government corruption is a major factor in their vote.

It’s not the biggest problem with this idea but it’s dumb all around.
An area of California desert was recently lit up at night, baffling locals. Turns out it was the latest step in a US startup's bid to put 50,000 satellites in space to reflect sunlight back to Earth at nighttime via giant mirrors. This quest has many critics. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026...

No country is immune to a fossil fuel cost crisis, but some countries are a lot more vulnerable than others.
New from me: The US has faced a higher cost than any other country from the global Hormuz oil shock, with the crisis adding $160 billion to its fuel bill — or $471 per person on average — despite being the world’s largest oil producer.

“Cyclists are often perceived as recklessly flaunting road laws. A new study challenges this perception. The study found only 5% of cyclists broke road rules while riding on bike infrastructure versus 66% of motorists who broke rules while driving.” Safe bike infrastructure fuels rule-following.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney points out that Elon Musk and Trump's crippling of Starshield, to help Russia, has led to deaths and reduced Ukraine's ability to stop indiscriminate attacks on innocent people.
Elon Musk spreads disinformation about Ukraine after being exposed for sabotaging military operations by the WSJ. The US tax funded billionaire, Trump's largest donor, (backed by Israel and Russia); tied to the deaths of thousands of children due to USAid cuts, blames Ukraine for not surrendering.

You can't remove debris from Earth orbit, either. I often use an analogy of ocean pollution to explain why orbital space isn't an infinite expanse to forever put things in.
You can't clean up plastic once it's in the ocean You can't suck up fossil carbon once it's in the atmosphere You can't (quickly) regrow a forest once you've destroyed it Destruction needs to be addressed at source. It makes no sense to just damage everything and try to fix it afterwards

I'm so glad this is out. On the other hand, the EPA has been wildly forthcoming about every move they've made by way of erratic and frequent press releases exalting every single rollback — loud and proud about the moves they're making
JUST POSTED: Today at The NYT we are publishing a major investigation into how President Trump used his executive powers to expose millions of Americans to greater cancer risks. A six month-long investigation built on more than 10,000 pages of FOIA records. Read it www.nytimes.com/2026/10/24/c...
So many things have gotten better over the last 40 years, but that will not cause me to accept the current backsliding we are in & repeating of the mistakes of the 80s.

Highway improvements never result in sustained time savings other than comparison to the construction period. They almost always increase congestion on the roads that lead to and from them. Invest in transit, as it actually increases throughput, with more passengers per vehicle.
A Sun-Times/WBEZ investigation confirms one driver's lament that it was "the worst traffic I've ever had to deal with." Worse yet, epic delays persist — a year after a three-year construction project ended and Gov. JB Pritzker promised “faster commutes.”

It turns out that choosing the lesser of two evils is, in fact, a moral imperative. And some folks want to wait for the Revolutionary Perfect, but I would equally challenge them to demonstrate a single time where a 'start from nothing, year-0' revolution has turned out well for most people.
