My produce subscription gave me a bulb of fennel this week. I have no idea what to do with it. I only like anise as a slight hint in cocktails or as a fond childhood memory of homemade cookies. (I didn’t eat the cookies because I didn’t like anise then either. I just remember them fondly.)

discovered this past week that a local tofu producer makes this amazing soy milk. it’s creamy and tastes like tofu instead of the vanilla the major brands put in theirs. just, like, a completely different soy milk experience

Watched an El Santo movie and I htink the funniest thing to me is that he's simultaneously played as a detective superhero yet he's also still an in-universe wrestler, so he has to pause the plot to go wrestling three separate times

Several weeks ago, Phil Tippett's legendary animation studio in Berkeley, CA closed. An anonymous hero noticed a folder of CDs. This turned out to be hundreds of unseen hi-res images and videos from Star Wars, Robocop, Jurassic Park, etc. ~90 isos for you to browse: archive.org/details/tipp...

33 years ago today, the Stranger stepped onto the dock of Myst Island for the first time. We can still hear the water splashing against the pilings.

Cartoonists, I'm begging you: have your own website with your comics on it. You can post them elsewhere too if you want, but I'm telling you, do not ever rely on a social media platform to keep you afloat. They're not there to make you money, they're there to make money off you.

Listen to me, an elder webcomic artist: There's never been a better time to get your own website and host your own comic. It's not hard or expensive. Don't trust your artwork or your following a corporation who will censor you and pull the rug out from under you.

This is shocking to hear! Einstein kept a picture of Maxwell on his office wall and admired him more than any other scientist. Every fall I teach a whole course about his work. This is like hearing that Westminster Abbey might be purchased so a new car rental place can built on Newton’s grave.

if I were a disgustingly wealthy CEO I wouldn’t post through my problems. I’d simply own a bar where I could talk it out sitcom-style while a laugh track played behind me

Today, Seattle's kindergartners took their very first steps into Seattle Public Schools, joining their fellow scholars for a brand new year! This year, every single one of them - from kindergarten through 12th grade - starts the year with something new: free breakfast and lunch for each student.

It was an era of questionable excess, but I really do look fondly back on the “giant rectangular pizza in a paper wrapper” trend of the 90s.

No matter whether you're intending to publish the piece or not, you gotta stop writing for your Very Worst And Most Horriblest Readers. Are they out there? Yes! Will they read your book? Probably! Do you have to give a shit? You do NOT.

Rabies is 100% fatal if untreated. Please help spread the word about the exposure at the Farm Adventures mobile petting zoo in North Carolina. The vaccine is incredibly effective and will save your life. Also…. Rabies at a petting zoo!?!? www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news...

RIP Peter Cullen, the legendary voice actor who brought Optimus Prime, Eeyore, Monterey Jack, and dozens of other memorable characters to life over the past half-century.

Report: Tim Curry's death to be investigated by suspicious group of eccentrics gathering at his house

Tim Curry and Dolly Parton have taught us not only that you should be bigger, weirder, gayer, and freakier, but also that those qualities are what people will love about you. The things that make you strange and amazing are the things that will resonate with other strange and amazing people

KEXP has been playing a lot of Dolly Parton, of course, but they’ve started mixing in some Rocky Horror Picture Show. It’s a little surreal.

Tim Curry and Dolly passing in the same week, rough time in particular for homosexuals of a certain age.
