I honestly don't know what's worse-- actually going into a panic spiral when asked to say three nice things about your own daughter, or pretending that's what happened to advance a public narrative about generative AI.

There was a fucking hole in our planet’s *atmosphere* Like a legit, no joke, “this will unravel our entire ecosystem” hole in the world, and then we fixed it by working together across national and political lines As a species we decided, “we will survive” Let’s do that some more

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

#CarlLaemmle was a great documentary. I'm learning so much from these Friday night screenings! #FilmsOnFilm #TCMParty

How do you get around the slayer statute-it's in place to prevent people from profiting from murders they commit, i.e., exactly this scenario? (1 way around it may be if the trust vested before the murders, but that's guessing.) + innocent until proven guilty, but that's a reason to wait to pay.

The Washington Post@washingtonpost.com

Nick Reiner may get to use his trust fund to defend himself against charges he murdered his mother and father, photographer Michele Singer Reiner and filmmaker Rob Reiner, and will enter settlement talks over the matter, lawyers said.

New SEC filings show that Mark Zuckerberg is preparing to pay California’s billionaire tax without losing control of Meta. So billionaires can afford to pay the tax? And they won't lose control of their companies or flee the state? Don’t fall for billionaires’ propaganda. Vote YES on Prop 40.

A joyful thread to lift the heart

i am on a plane sitting next to a lady who looks 40ish and has informed me that this is her first time flying she is visibly excited. she asked the flight attendant how much a soda costs and was happy to learn that drinks are free on airplanes. she's taking lots of pictures. i love this for her

I call all these guys (especially ICE agents) militia larpers.

Jared Yates Sexton@jysexton.bsky.social

It really knocks you on your ass when you realize the problem is that the fascists are largely made up of a bunch of grown men in arrested development who spend their adult lives playing pretend and making everyone miserable as they LARP through the world.

50 years ago, the Attorney General went to prison for committing crimes to cover up the criminal actions of the President of the United States. The fallout from Watergate led to the building of a wall of independence at DOJ that lasted half a century. That wall has been shattered by Trump's people.

Attorney General Todd Blanche says there's a "misperception that there's this separation and independence between the Department of Justice and the White House." "I work for President Trump."

Here's the deal: You can't say you're a lawyer, attorney, any of those things, if you're not a member of the bar. It's misleading to the public, which is who we're trying to protect. If you have a law degree and don't pass the bar, you're a JD. Just say that. 🙄

What's more, you certainly can't say you practiced law, no matter what country you're in. The rule is against unauthorized practice of law.

I am entirely serious when I say that this should be seen as a moderate position. It specifically and surgically dismantles institutions that did not exist pre-9/11 and assigns their functions much as they were assigned pre-9/11.

Hard not to notice that Democrats who are doing the best are the ones who are leaving this whole civility-and-norms, we-go-high, we-need-a-strong-Republican-Party bullshit behind and are simply giving Republicans exactly what they all ought to get at all times, which is undisguised contempt.
