I'm glad we're on the same page now. That's what the question's always been. Where will the line be drawn. At what number of dead does the public or city finally say — enough.

Sean Devine@seandevine9.bsky.social

The question for Ottawa is simple: How many fatalities are we willing to accept before making compromises? Will we sacrifice vehicular convenience for someone else’s right to return home alive? Any Mayoral candidates want to address the treachery on our roads? The floor is yours.

What the heck is happening on Ottawa's roads?!🚨 4 fatalities of vulnerable road users in 6 days. A driver rams into a bakery. 4 collisions involving serious injuries yesterday. And today, another pedestrian killed in Barrhaven. Am I the only candidate in this election talking about this? 1/

Police don’t have a clue what to do here, they have botched other deaths involving heavy vehicles. Also, Danielle Naçu, a driver’s car's door opened into her and she was thrown under a passing car. The driver got a $110 Highway Traffic Act dooring ticket and nothing more www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

cbc.caPolice re-enactment of cyclist's death rife with errors, court told | CBC NewsAn Ottawa police collision expert agreed he made "a huge mistake" when he used a taller driver than the man charged in the death of a cyclist to re-enact the incident. That was just one of his errors.

Good job dingus. Immediately to the left of the little #Rogers truck is a marked off section of parking spaces but this dude finds the bike lane more convenient.

Almost three weeks later the driver who killed this young woman is still at large probably still driving their dark coloured Ford Escape. Please tell us again how there's a "war on cars". A license to drive is a license to kill. #Autowa #ottnews

Just went out for an errand 4 km away on my bike. Had a driver swing over to cut me off before an intersection, then continue straight; a driver stop in the bike lane in front of me and then reverse toward me; a driver going through the intersection with a phone at eye level in his right hand;

Second fucking day in a row a car has blown the red lights on my daughter’s bus. I swear it was the same guy too. I’m bringing some rocks tomorrow.

After the pedestrian carnage at Bank/Riverside area I hung around thinking, “I’ll leave when nobody does some sort of traffic infraction” - I have too much video to process. It’s simply unbelievable. Not to drivers, they don’t GAF. But anyone else, it’s mystifying. I’ll try to make a video. #autowa

Considering there’s a “War on Cars,” according to the Mayor and his doting councillors/candidates, there sure as hell seem to be a significant number of drivers attacking pedestrians, cyclists, and buildings. I hope everyone is OK. The last time I was there I was sat exactly where that car is.

You know, there were fucking drivers behind the wheel of these vehicles @ctvnewsottawa.bsky.social ?? #autowa “On Thursday, a 78-year-old woman died from her injuries after being struck by a vehicle in Sandy Hill. On Wednesday, a 60-year-old man was struck by a vehicle and killed in Barrhaven.”

🦃 is done and it's back to the weekend grind. To bootstrap our machine vision training data, I'm looking at purchasing a medium grade ALPR or speed enforcement camera. I know it's a very long shot, but if anyone has experience in the field or recommendations - please reach out. #Autowa #Ottawa

When cops tell you that road safety is a shared responsibility. Yeah, fuck off with that.

Pedaling Professor@pedalingprof.bsky.social

I've never struggled to believe reports of bad behavior by cops because even in my very limited interactions with them in my life, they've often been remarkably unprofessional, rude, and threatening. Just suggested one shouldn't block the only accessible sidewalk and he called me a p*ssy and more.

😅

Earlier today, I saw a bumper sticker that said “I’m a veterinarian, therefore I can drive like an animal.” And then I realized how many proctologists are on the roads....

Police: “This is a graphic illustration of one reason that impaired driving is so dangerous. It’s potentially fatal, not be to mention embarrassing and costly" You're driving a 100k car drunk, I don't think 2.4k is meaningful, nor are they dying of embarrassment...

Jimmy Thomson@jameswsthomson.com

The fines should be ruinously expensive for drunk driving your $100k sports car at 120 km/h in a 50 km/h zone. Yet here, the cops brag that in total it'll come to "at least $2,400" and that the speed fines themselves only account for about $350 of that. www.castanet.net/news/Vernon/...

Seconded. Many of these acts are quite minor in themselves, so drivers really don’t get why people (like me sometimes) react badly. What’s the big deal, right? When it’s the third time *today,* or something that happens two days out of three at this particular corner, it gets to be a big deal.

Daniel Munro@dkmunro.bsky.social

Thing is, that’s not an exception. Every day on my run, I wait for Ottawa drivers to speed through red lights, dodge (with school kids) illegal turns past crossing guards, wait at “optional” stop signs until there are no cars, etc. If I simply followed signals, I’d be dead twice a week.

Ottawa By-law is still not enforcing the illegal paving of front yards for parking spaces. They had paused enforcement until after the new Zoning By-law and Access By-law passed, but those came into effect months ago and they're still not enforcing the rules.

Long shot here: I have dashcam footage from yesterday ~2:20 (October 6) of a fairly serious collision on St.Joseph in Orleans (near the apple orchard). Some braintrust in the light coloured SUV made a completely illegal turn onto the street and got clobbered by the blue Honda Fit.

Oh good (not). Glad they demolished people's homes to make way for parking for the next 5-15 years until the development gets approved and built... maybe. Note: proposed development will also mean demo of that apartment building with the white balconies.
