no kings includes billionaires who think they’re kings

Meta took down the No Kings instagram; TikTok banned the Musk documentary account for supposedly violating its political posting policies. A reminder that platforms are owned by the wealthiest of people, control the means of media distribution, & put their thumbs on the democracy scale as they wish

Everyone questioning whether Darline Graham is smart enough to be in the Senate is making me smile. You mean in comparison to the intellectual powerhouses already there? Like Tommy Tuberville? Marsha Blackburn? Ron Johnson? John Fetterman?

The imbalance between the rich and the poor has reached a breaking point. The first trillionaire has been minted. Yet 20 states still have a minimum wage of $7.25 an hour. Something is fundamentally broken here.

If liberty comes from the Bible, why did the Constitution omit God, ban religious tests for office, and prohibit the establishment of religion? The founders were drawing heavily from Enlightenment philosophy, not creating a biblical republic.

I'm not sure how you can be against removing this man from office right now. What will it take? A nuke being dropped? It's too late then. The purpose of impeachment and the 25th Amendment is to prevent that type of thing from happening, not just to react to it.

From nursing homes to newspapers, the obsession with squeezing every last time out of businesses that claim to serve the public good is destroying America.

Say you're a Washpost journo. Your owner, editor and publisher, after gutting the paper with mass 400-person layoff, use terms like "cost per story unit." Would you stay?

Make sure everyone sees this then. The FCC apparently changed its “equal time” rule on talk shows to make it hard for Colbert or The View to air interviews with candidates like Talarico. Video link in comments.

He spent decades bringing the religious right to power. Now he's marching to undo it. Rev. Rob Schenck spent decades helping build the Religious Right—commingling church and state to advance conservative causes. Now, he says he must confront the damage he helped cause.

rightwingers see people caring about others in their community and instead of finding that inspiring they think it’s some sort of grand conspiracy because they don’t understand what it means to care for others you don’t personally know

#SCOTUS is likely to do the right thing in the Lisa Cook case. But it's worth bearing in mind that this idea that the Fed is some bespoke exception to the unitary executive theory is utterly incoherent as a matter of both law and history—and is really just proof that the UET is itself bollocks:

stevevladeck.com153. Living by the Ipse DixitA constitutional principle like the "unitary executive theory" isn't worth all that much if the Supreme Court can conjure new, unprincipled exceptions to it by simply asserting that they exist.

For @msnownews.bsky.social, I wrote an article about how ICE Watch is grounded in sociological theories of violence prevention. The reality is that most men will only commit public violence in extremely specific scenarios and ICE Watch disrupts the conditions necessary for escalation.

ms.nowOpinion | I'm a Minneapolis sociologist who studies violence. Here's how ICE observers are helping.Research into how violence occurs shows that disapproval from the people around you can help reduce it.

You are up to date.
