As a reporter it's easy to always be cynical, but yesterday I got to witness a heartwarming event: the announcement of D.C.'s teacher of the year. My colleague Shamira Muhammad talked to Ramon Griffin from Thurgood Marshall Academy in Ward 8: www.washingtonsun.com/metro/dc-tea...

A reminder, because it is almost that time of year: More children are killed by cars on Halloween than any other day of the year, by far. www.vox.com/future-perfe... If you're a parent, I hope you'll do what you can to keep kids safe. If you're driving on Saturday, PLEASE exercise extra caution.

If you listen to the whole thing, he’s not exactly disproving Obama’s observation that all Trump cares about is home renovations. He just goes on and on about the details. Trump is our groundskeeper in chief.

Trump is BIG MAD about Obama saying the White House now looks like Saddam opened a Cheesecake Factory: "He's not a smart guy. He's not smart at all ... for you to say it's a Cheesecake Factory, that just shows why you were a lousy president"

Congrats to Lula on overcoming Mark Zuckerberg and Donald Trump to defeat Hospital Pervert Jr., even as his opposition literally blocked off roads and turned off bus service during election day. Fascists are scary but they are always, 100% of the time, ultimately gigantic fucking losers.

I just want to name that people overcame this. Even against a stacked deck, the good fight is worth it. Win or lose, it's worth it. And sometimes the good guys win.

Bolsonaro-friendly mayors appear to be sabotaging public transport on Election Day. Buses aren’t running in Lula-friendly areas, flights and ferries mysteriously canceled. Traffic lights have gone out and people’s power cut in Salvador, indigenous people’s travel restricted

It's really important to pay attention to the fact that Lula beat the fascist candidate not by compromising and trying to meet fascist voters in the middle, but by sticking to his guns, promising prosecutions for election interference, and mobilising his own voters to turn out in greater numbers.

Great, timely thread.

I do not think it is an accident that gambling has come to be referred to as legitimate “investment” at the same time the valuation of companies (and currency!) has become so bizarre. This “reification” of speculation, of paying $x in the hopes of someday getting $y,

Yes, that’s why it was so hard to get into any of the popular restaurants - because of all the Jesse James-style robberies happening during peak dinner hours.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Trump: "In Washington, all the restaurants were closing. People were being held up. They'd walk into a restaurant. Like Jesse James. 'Stand up! Give us all your money.' They're eating dinner at a fancy restaurant. All the restaurants were closing."

Given the shift in media ownership over the Trump era, Democrats REALLY need to learn to ignore media handwringing now. Because I have no doubt their every move for accountability will be attacked from every possible angle.
