What’s our system of numerals called? I’ll wait. Then there’s the Muslim world including the Fertile Crescent and beyond. Rumi. In 1258 the Mongol empire reached the Arab cultural capital of Baghdad and tossed its libraries into the river.
RFK: "There's five hundred million Arabs in the world. And yet they don't produce science. They don't win the Nobel Prize. They don't win the Fields Prize. They don't win the Wolf Prize. They don't produce literature."
Love the quote in the passage in the image below. I’ve been to a Santana show and several Dick Dale shows. Rock’n roll contains immigrant musics. It’s literally the actual American dream.
A 2025 Nobel Prize winner in chemistry, Omar Yaghi is the son of Palestinian refugees who grew up in Jordan. He just left the US to move to China after raising concerns about rising anti-immigrant sentiment, like the kind shown here. donmoynihan.substack.com/p/china-than...

The post I forbore to reply to, in the vein of how broad a section of socioeconomic classes supported Trump 2016/2024 out of shared conservatism. Preaching about “decline” in general is a lying conservative habit.
American conservatives are constantly bemoaning the decline of aesthetic standards and calling for a return to tailored suits and classical Roman architecture, but are now forced to defend the Cheesecake Factory. A constant tension between the Brooks Brothers patrician and the Kid Rock populist.
Thousands of hours on RDO/fo76, just goofing off on GTA, maybe 40-100 hours vainly searching for Garamon’s Bones.
First five RPGs played: 1. (probably) Marvel Superheroes (monstrous! yet brief) 2. Paranoia 3. Ultima Underworld 4. Red Dead Online 5. GTA 5 Online If I don’t count Marvel, which was barely once, 6. Fallout 76 would move up

@sonyaoldssom.bsky.social My favorite audio sound bite from @greatesttrek.com is "I am Miles Edward O'Brien" with Meaney's line about the car from Con Air "This is f---ing spectacular."
The Soviet microchip, the biggest microchip in the world!
Do you want to create a statistical model for a predictive-text keyboard? Get a stock chatbot LLM, train it to do that. Do you believe short-chain markov models outperform LLMs, for this application? Too bad. You have to use an LLM. LLMs use more CPU and battery life, so they're automatically better

could someone with the ability to post on r/philadelphia post my post on there, with a link, playing it off like it's just a funny post? I need exposure lmao. I don't use reddit because I'm not a fucking loser so my account doesn't have the requisite karma to post on there or whatever

Also medical science and biological science, elite disciplines, are pro trans rights.
Jo Rowling's accusation of elitism is a bit like the way some people who are pieces of shit like to say "you think you are better than me" indignantly to justify being pieces of shit. I don't think we should read much more than that We are better than her personally. We're not elite, the bar is low
Take away the woman’s gay yacht
Tend to think this is the same old elite song, not even changing key: "don't confuse the huge resources at my disposal, to fund as many legal cases as I can notice, as many projects to pump hateful propaganda into the atmosphere as I can fill my day, my megayacht, with anything like accountability"

I keep researching fascism and not only did they fail to make the trains run on time, they didn’t quite meet the definition of “totalitarian” control as governments, because of the sheer chaos of duplication and dictator playing subordinates against each other for paranoid reasons (etc)
Y’all, they NEVER made the trains run on time. That is a Mussolini joke.
