@gabrielzucman.bsky.social: So let met get that straight: paying a wealth tax is impossible (“billionaires have no liquidity”, “it would be taxing unrealized gains”, “their wealth is virtual”) but one man paying half a billion to influence elections is possible. Did I understand well?

Musk’s wealth is a threat to democracy—not just in the U.S. but everywhere. He’s probably the greatest threat to the free world today.

this is the reason these questions are asked. it doesn't matter how well el-sayed answers, the media get to write a headline with his name and the muslim brotherhood in it. heated, islamist, implications, criticize, disavow, dual loyalty, scary man bad

In case you don't know, it's very simple. In an authoritarian cycle the "opposition" liberal party is captured by wealth interests and becomes conservative and defenders of a decaying status quo. Fascists come along, offer the critique of the status quo the "opposition" can't and gain converts.

Every 'rogue AI' headline is a human decision disappearing from the story. Name who built the test, who removed the restraints, and who left the door open.

I resigned from ExxonMobil today. I spent the last three years doing fossil fuel extraction research at both BP and ExxonMobil. Neither company is acting responsibly. They are racing to maximize extraction while the window to act closes, and gambling with our lives. More below.

This is some real January 6 bs

Trump: "Please right your right hand. I pledge to the greatest president in the history of the United States. That loves us so much he can't even breath. That I will go out with my family, my friends, I'll do it any way - I don't care if I'm registered or not, I'm going to try to cheat like hell..."

one thing I will say is that if Dems don’t get very aggressive on oversight and play hardball with the admin after they win in November, the success of more lefty candidates in primaries this cycle will absolutely pale in comparison to their success in 2028

There’s no “4D chess.” It’s not “strategy” beyond placating popular discontent and staving off an insurgent Left on behalf of wealth and oligarchical class donors. It is what it looks like and just whipping up these delusional fairytale narratives only ensures this will get worse.

Seemingly every government story is awful, so I want you to pay some attention to elected officials who are actually trying to make government function. A puzzle about Mamdani why is he investing so much capital in the details of governing, like potholes or 311 calls. bsky.app/profile/mayo...

Ever wonder how to get rid of a mattress? Or how to find resources for a neighbor in need? Call 311.    311 is contacted 100,000 times every day, 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year. No call is too small.    So on the anniversary of 311 (3/11), I decided to answer some of those calls myself.

Tony Bourdain taught us all that a place is full of good food, good people, and good experiences despite very shitty politics and I think it’s kind of classically American to have thought we were excluded from that Venn diagram

Trump and Musk’s profoundly evil decision to cut off U.S. aid is now making an Ebola outbreak in the DRC much worse. The world will live to regret the cruelty and stupidity of Trump, Musk, their flunkies, and the scumbags and fools in the U.S. who voted them in.
