To celebrate the release of @brianduffield.bsky.social’s Whalefall, I recorded a very entertaining episode of The Spiel where we nerd out about Minority Report! Listen to the podcast and then go see Austin Abrams navigate a surprising amount of whale sphincters at a theater near you!

There are like 40 perfect examples of this exactly in TERMS OF ENDEARMENT, but the one that always gets me is at the very end when Nicholson takes Winger’s eldest son to see his swimming pool as a field trip away from her funeral 😭

This is a favorite question to ask. Favorite little moment of kindness in a movie? I'm thinking of Tim Blake Nelson leaving money on the sill after they steal a pie in O Brother.

Aw, this is nice. Loved writing this piece on LIFEBOAT for Paste. It was previously a Hitchcock blind spot and I had a blast digging deep with it.

My mom, the world-class filmmaker, by Zohran

In less than a week, I will be sworn in as the next mayor of New York City. It was only possible because of the more than 100,000 people who volunteered on our campaign. Here’s a story about one of them, my mother.

Took five hours almost to the minute for someone to drop the old "RETURN OF THE KING had too many endings!" chestnut, so here's a thing I wrote for Paste's film section (RIP) about that.

pastemagazine.comThe Return of the King at 20: In Defense of All Those EndingsReverence for Tolkien persists throughout the Lord of The Rings films, but nowhere is it more evident than Return of the King's ending.

Please, please, everyone, this is not the season for us to argue about STAR WARS movies. It's the season for us to argue about LORD OF THE RINGS movies. Show some decorumm

Always a good convo with Mike. Lots of Sliver (1993) content.

I spoke to Rian Johnson about WAKE UP DEAD MAN. He tells the story about how Daniel Craig was almost not Benoit Blanc. How Craig will always play Benoit Blanc in future movies. And he makes a personal plea to an Oscar winning actor to be in Knives Out 4. www.indiewire.com/features/int...

I read the Nuzzi excerpt in Vanity Fair, and there is something maddening about her choice to refer to RFK Jr. not by name but with mock coyness as "the Politician." It suggests that the chance to actualize some Carrie Bradshaw-meets-Big fantasy fueled all of this. Anyway, I don't need to know more.

The average American millennial man thought it was awesome that Indiana Jones punched Nazis a lot.
