A new congressional report reveals allegations that Trump "brutally" raped former Miss Switzerland beauty pageant contestant Beatrice Keul, leaving bruises all over her body.
Trump allegedly promised to help Keul obtain a visa and admission to NYU if she remained silent.
11. Brown said what’s new is an allegation from a former beauty contestant from Switzerland by the name of Beatrice Keul. She told the committee that Epstein arranged a meeting w/ Trump at the time one of his pageants. She said he raped her in 1993 in New York.
Here's the key part of the report:
I read The Haunting of Velkwood by Gwendolyn Kiste, audiobook narrated by Jennifer Pickens.
3 friends were the only survivors when a suburban neighborhood turned into a ghost realm inaccessible to everyone but them. 20 years later, one is lured back by a research team...

The word choices in this book were so utterly on point. I loved how well that was done.
Example: Using the word "jaundiced" to describe the lighting in a diner, and later we are told that area had been slowly dying off even before the incident happened in the neighborhood.

This book has the vibe of a Silent Hill setting but without all of the gore. It's creepy, and emotional, and tragic. I love a horror tale where the primary driving emotion of the mystery is grief - it's just so enthralling.
I’m not a political journalist, so was gladly surprised at the community I found here last night. To Americans anxious about the upcoming elections, a key thing we learned in Brazil that might help you: DO NOT engage with the far-right online. Don’t share rage bait. Amplify your people. Ignore them.
You know what doesn't get enough love? Horror short stories.
From today through Halloween, I'll update this thread with Horror short story recommendations. Stuff you can read in a sitting while feeling like the shadows are watching.
Bolsonaro-friendly mayors appear to be sabotaging public transport on Election Day. Buses aren’t running in Lula-friendly areas, flights and ferries mysteriously canceled. Traffic lights have gone out and people’s power cut in Salvador, indigenous people’s travel restricted

I read Cinderwich by Cherie Priest, a novella which reimagines a (real) tragic English story, blending true crime and folklore to give a sense of closure where history did not.
I really enjoyed this. Creepy, mysterious, cool (even if it hurt my feelings).

An important note about this book - I read a physical copy of the "author's cut" version. There is also an original version which has an audiobook, but I don't know how much the two versions differ.
While we don't get an "intellectual" conclusion in this book, and many questions are left unanswered... I still felt so emotionally satisfied.
Grief (and moving on), queerness, adult protagonists - so many high points!
Finishing reading The Hollow Places by T.Kingfisher, audiobook narrated by the wonderful Hillary Huber.
I really enjoyed the lore and character work and there's some solidly creepy scenes and details.

For me, the pacing was a bit off, it slowed by too much in the middle, and there was some in the writing. Those factors lessened the creepy atmosphere somewhat for me, personally
But regardless, I really liked it. Excellent spooky season read.
Staying vague to avoid spoilers, but I love the cat and the dead woman's eye and how hollowness shows up and the taxidermy and the conversations with the ex.
Also, it relates to my prior read in a way. Both carry a message that if you take care of something, it will take care of you. Love it.
"It shouldn't be about choosing sides."
I have grown to despise that particular line of thinking. Fuck that. I pick sides now.
The people who benefit from others not picking a side usually suck in very important ways.
If my friend's ex was abusive, I'm picking a side. If someone treats my friends badly, I'm choosing a side.
If there's a political group that is actively trying to take away my (or anyone's) rights to vote or autonomy or survival, I'm picking a side.
Neutrality is not inherently a virtue.
Trump: "If you call somebody from that part of the world 'Mohammed,' you're about 65% sure to get it right. So if you have any problem with names, just call the guy Mohammed, you'll probably be right."
RE that last RS--"you might mistakenly reject a real person if you reject everything you think might be AI" has real "but if you don't take off your headphones and allow every guy to harass you while you ride to work, you might miss a great romance!"
Haha, maybe (LOL no), and I don't care.
I published a short story this year in @uncannymagazine.bsky.social that I'm really proud of. It's about the attention economy, flavors of provocation, and what a superhero would even look like if it was invented today.
It starts with a dare.
For those of you on NetGalley, my upcoming novella THE UPPER TENTACLE is available to read now today ONLY! If for Bosses' Day you'd like a werido book wherein cthulhu-like aliens have eaten the billionaire bosses, this book is for you! www.netgalley.com/catalog/book...

After another shooting and the raid on Ilhan Omar's home, Rep. Delia Ramirez says abolishing ICE isn't enough. She has introduced a bill to "dismantle" the entire Department of Homeland Security.
Ep2 is perhaps more "in your face" with its horror/gore, but nothing there is new - all of that was present in ep1.
I prefer when it leans more subtle, so the horror can slowly dawn on the viewer. But given some of the reactions I'm seeing online, I think the show did need to make it more obvious.
Guin clearly has PTSD. And the way her issues (mental and mechanical) are being portrayed on the screen is just so well done.
Also she's both wonderful and creepy and lovable and terrifying.
