i am inviting anyone from a legacy media organization to explain to me why the house judiciary dems report on trump’s epstein’s ties and multiple allegations of rape isn’t worthy of extensively reporting on. i’m serious. i want to understand.

This seems like something the Dems should make a big deal about, but what do I know?

Prem Thakker ツ@premthakker.bsky.social

NEW: "Donald Trump was an active participant in Jeffrey Epstein’s sexual abuse of young women during the mid-to-late 1990s," per new House Judiciary Dem report. Report has new allegation that Trump raped a 24-year-old and then promised the victim a visa & NYU admission, demanding she stay quiet.

This is what we've been saying. Even at subscription rates this is profitable.

85% inference margin, training costs are well below that. Really remarkable.

Anthropic cumulative operating loss since inception is only $12 billion and at their current run rate operating margin they will completely recoup that loss by Q1 27 even if revenue is flat. So much for “these companies will never make money” lmao

People overestimate what technology can do in a year and underestimate what it can do in ten. In 1996, despite AOL’s popularity, you’d struggle to show how the internet boosted profits at Coca-Cola or P&G. Today, neither could function without it.

I don't think it's a coincidence that the further down the privilege ladder you go from American middle class the attitude towards AI improves. A tech that lets a Zimbabwean teenager compete with a 40 something American suburbanite knowledge worker is going to test a lot of people's progressivism.

Then I'm sorry but uh Maybe it's not for you? You are not only cheating the system, but also yourself. Becoming reliant on automated systems to produce your own creativity. Have fun i guess but its nothing id ever want to touch.

Someone once told me (in the context of physical engineering) that everything leaks and it's all breaking all the time. It requires constant effort by countless professionals just to maintain the status quo. I think about that a lot, and it's even more true in the context of adversarial actors

I know I'm a broken record on this, but one part of what is going on is that people have literally no idea what the US immigration system actually is; effectively, that there are no pathways into the country legally for someone who wants to wait in line.

Greg Sargent@gregsargent.bsky.social

New Marist poll of Texas finds 61% say undocumented immigrants should stay in US if meet certain requirements. Only 35% say they should leave. A majority of noncollege white men (Trump base) says stay. Supports my case (see piece/thread below) that Trump opened way for new pro-immigrant consensus

The issue isn't hypocrisy in who is allowed to violate IP. The issue is framing AI training as an IP violation at all. AI training is generally transformative. AI output is generally transformative. A world where transformative use is illegal is a hellscape of corporate enforced thought crimes.

there’s an uncomfortable nuance probably worth diving into about the ethics of using generative AI to ship code versus generate art assets versus clone a person’s voice versus push slop to the algorithms. I truly don’t know where the line is. it’s frustrating

Unpopular opinion: LLMs are generally deradicalizing people whose beliefs are based on pure propaganda. I've been watching this happen slowly with some people I care about. ChatGPT is one of the reasons they finally accept that the NRA, OAN, and NewsMax are lying to them.

this is more important than niche internet arguments make it seem: if LLMs don't work, who cares that Palantir is rolling it out for surveillance? Hell, maybe it's even good, if the state's machines start hallucinating the addresses of random Trump supporters when dispatching ICE. But they do work.
