A Florida man was found dead in his home during a welfare check in July 2022. Weeks later, one of the officers who discovered his body moved into the home and spent years impersonating him, according to investigators.

If any other country did this to an American they would’ve already been invaded

The Washington Post@washingtonpost.com

Masked Israeli settlers attacked Palestinian villagers on Friday, setting olive groves on fire and slinging rocks. Caught in the attack was Post photographer Heidi Levine. “They just kept kicking me and kicking me, like probably 50 times,” Levine said. https://wapo.st/4yt6dHY

Honestly don’t know how we continue functioning as a society with such a small number of people vacuuming up this much wealth. Basically the equivalent of the US defense budget was rerouted to 500 people in just the last nine months.

If your desire to win overrides your willingness to fight for everyone, to have any moral conviction, any moral consistency, then you’ve already fucking lost. It makes no difference when you become the thing you’re trying to defeat.

“He’s less likely to use minorities as pawns compared to a Republican.” He’s doing that exact thing right now. Your hatred of Republicans has blinded you to the fact that your preferred “team” is becoming more and more like Republicans.

"This election is about the threat of trans kids" is the worst possible messaging for Dems yet so many candidates are leaning into it. No voter will flip R->D over it. Low-info voters read this as "you're focused on bullshit that doesn't affect me" while the base reads this as "you're an asshole."

Adam Bonin@adambonin.bsky.social

Incredibly disappointing ad from Mary Peltola (D-AK) saying she neither supports "kids getting surgeries to change genders or men in girls bathrooms." Yes, flipping the Senate is essential and can stop bad laws and bad judges from happening, but she can do it without my support from the lower 48.

it should be mentioned that the 2014 status quo for trans people still meant that we had suicide risks, unemployment numbers, life expectancy, poverty risk that were way worse than the average person, and somehow asking for this is seen as frivolous luxury and purity testing

a lot of people act like there's a trade being offered where we give up trans athletes in sports and in exchange fascism is defeated forever

Saying "Republicans are worse" is just a given. We *expect* more from Dems. The consultant class is forever chasing polls instead of changing them. When a fascist movement takes aim at a minority group, capitulating is just pathetic. People respect principles, not conceding to a moral panic

You’d think differently if there were democrats running on the Genocide for Insufferable Dorks platform.

Will Stancil@whstancil.bsky.social

I'll confess I'm shocked by this: seeing a respected progressive voice openly argue that it's better to defeat Democrats who have been flaky on trans rights than to secure Democratic control of the US Senate and US House. Unbelievably foolish, short-sighted, self-sabotaging nonsense.

Our society's unfathomable cruelty to homeless people is not just morally unjustifiable, but more expensive than housing people would be. Cruelty against the homeless is an unaffordable luxury. Abandoning homeless people to avoid offending the Protestant work ethic is an unaffordable luxury.

ProPublica@propublica.org

ProPublica spoke to dozens of people who had lived in homeless encampments when cities cleared them out in “sweeps.” We distributed notecards so people could tell us about the toll in their own words. ➡️ This is what they wrote:

Pretend for a second that you had no preexisting opinion about Israel. Wouldn’t this, all on its own, still make you insanely pissed off at them? Here’s a foreign press arguing that their country is entitled to a debtor’s army comprised of our young people to go die in Iran. Enraging

The Jerusalem Post argues indebted Americans should be conscripted into the Iran War.

These just isn’t a world any more that anyone can argue for Isreal like idk how to describe how evil this is, and any further attempt by democratics to keep friendly relations will be the death of the party.

I’m don’t with this app today holy moly so here’s a few things people need to remember: 1: you can want good things from politicians 2: you blame politicians when they fail 3: you can demand better Have a good day

Solidarity with E. Jean Carroll and all survivors who face legal retaliation and criminal prosecution for speaking the truth. This is both remarkable and utterly unsurprising. Survivors have been jailed, retraumatized, harassed, and sued into silence for far too long.
