No one needs to listen to James Carville about anything. But I'll keep saying this until I'm blue in the face: It's not the lefties who hold Democrats hostage in Congress, IT'S THE MODERATES. Bernie Sanders never killed a Democratic bill he didn't like. You know who did? Joe Manchin. Many times.

It's the stupidity, stupid. Shut up and go away.

I see we're having a debate about whether it's okay to go back to "X," the site owned by a trillionaire fascist who is currently bankrolling the GOP's midterm, throttled Ukraine's war effort, and still winkingly allows vast amounts of CSAM on his service Answer: No, what the fuck is wrong with you

how am i supposed to stay connected if im not on the app with the on-demand child pornography generator where traffic craters when russian data centers are taken offline and they make up news about dem candidates in mental hospitals?

Two quick points: 1. Every stated reason that these guys say the left twitter for is *worse* now. 2. It is social media. It is not in any way necessary. Even if if it were, anything consequential gets reposted here, masto, etc.

I am way too online for my own good, and I had an unreasonably large twitter following, and I really *enjoyed* twitter for a lot of years, and yet leaving there and never looking back was maybe the easiest what-felt-like-a-big-ethical decision I've ever made.

easy slogan for the next democratic presidential candidate is “i will reform the corrupt supreme court and repeal citizens united”

Omar Wasow@owasow.bsky.social

“When Citizens United was decided in 2010, billionaires had spent $18 million on the 2000 election, $13M 2004 and $16M in 2008. Then came the deluge. In 2012 it was $231M, and nearly doubled again in next three election cycles —to $682M in 2016, $1.2 billion in 2020 and $2.6 billion in 2024.” Gift:

This is a good alternative to the more traditional: 1. skip the lattes 2. only buy in season 3. wait 24 hours before making non-essential purchases 4. be born into generational wealth 5. call your internet company every 6-12mo to negotiate on prices

Senator Schumer is no longer effective and should be replaced. If you can’t lead the fight to stop healthcare premiums from skyrocketing for Americans, what will you fight for?

How about we shut down the government for this very popular and specific goal and then, hear me out, we hold out for like a month and a half and then, ok this part is important, after a watershed election where we ran the table, ONLY THEN, fold and don't get the one thing we said we wanted.

My advice to people, as it has been since the USENET days, is simply this: Everything that can be made public on the Internet one day will be made public. Say what you want and what you feel is necessary, and remember it will be found.

Playing "what would Steve have done?" is usually a dumb game, but lining up to blow a wannabe autocrat the weekend before they announce another year of the most boring, incremental updates is definitely not it.

trying to explain dental plan coverage and having to raise my voice higher and higher above their incredulous laughter

Katie Mack@astrokatie.com

Every once in a while I tell people from other countries about how the health insurance system works in the US and they are aghast. Yesterday a guy straight up didn’t believe me when I said people can die because of not being able to afford medicine. He was sure I meant in the distant past.
