The asshole administration is planning to remove the mining buffer around Chaco Canyon in New Mexico. This is being done without tribal or expert input and the public comment time is incredibly, and cowardly short. Please comment to help try and save Chaco.

honestly it just makes me so fucking angry to see these guys asking to be treated normally as if they won’t order food, go back to their van, put on masks and kidnap the people who made it for them
I understand why so many people are dooming over this, but this is what happens when one of the two major parties spends the better part of 2 decades abandoning any actual attempt at political persuasion in favor of just paying consultants to figure out what the median voter wants.
The fact that VP JD Vance and Richard Grenell went to Romania—on behalf of the Trump Administration— to advocate for Andrew and Tristan Tate, who by all accounts, were rapists running a coercive sex ring, then permitted them to come to Florida, should be a crazy, crazy scandal.
It's not that I think they have a super-secret plan to overturn the elections and seize power, but you're watching an entire political party, from top to bottom, meme itself into convincing itself that its opponents are inherently illegitimate, and that road doesn't go anywhere good.
Bears Ears National Monument has thousands of protected archaeological sites that will be at risk if Trump’s plan to turn it over to his rich asshole donor buddies goes through
This video clip of a swan landing on a lake is best enjoyed with AUDIO ON.
Mute swans (Cygnus olor) are among the heaviest flying birds & require a long runway, which means we get the majestic approach, a few furious moments of webbed feet slapping on water, then the majestic splashdown.
Almost certainly the best thing I was ever told about owls was when I met an owl handler at an owl sanctuary and he told me that the wild owls who lived near the sanctuary worried about the tame show owls there and sometimes stopped by to leave them shrews and mice as presents.
I woulda thought the end of Henry Kissinger would have taught long-time internet people just how thin the broth is for talking shit about someone who did almost everything they wanted. Accountability is for the living to do and accomplish.
“Culture of impunity” is right.
The demand is to never hold public figures accountable for wrongdoing, not even verbally when they’re already beyond the reach of human accountability and won’t hear the criticisms and jokes. The legacy must be sanitized, or current elites might feel less impunity.
When a politician dies we see a lot of hagiographies about them. If you mention they were a terrible person IRL, you get chastised.
My feeling? If you don't want people to talk shit about you after you die, don't be shitty when you're alive.
Indeed. We are not forcing upon Graham the memory of him being a villain, a coward, and a malignant presence in the country; that was the legacy he chose again and again. He earned our contempt, as has everyone else on his path.
Lindsey Graham spent the last decade of his life in public service as a US Senator, trying hard to be remembered as an enemy of the Constitution who worked to destroy American democracy and exhibited occasional signs that he knew why that was bad but kept doing it anyway.
I will honor his choice.
Hey @durbin.senate.gov and @amyklobuchar.com.
There may in theory be a case for the Combating Organized Retail Crime Act (CORCA). But the idea of expanding DHS/ICE's power NOW through this surveillance bill is nuts. So don't add it to the NDAA. Withdraw your support. No new powers for DHS and ICE.
we keep slobbering for non-politicians who "don't play politics", we want to keep the politics out of politics, and it's killing us, and I don't know how to make people stop feeding at that trough. We're hopelessly addicted to parasocial fandom in a way that seems to enable sociopaths.
A HUGE part of the problem is an electorate that gets turned on by a politician saying "I'm not a career politician."
Fuck that. I want people I hire to be good at their fucking job, and getting good at a job requires actually WANTING TO DO THE JOB and GETTING EXPERIENCE DOING THE JOB.
but this country? the promise of this country? the promise of this country is that it doesn't matter where you're from. it doesn't matter what your blood is. it doesn't matter your race or color or creed or gender or sex.
there is a life for you here.
Guys I can’t keep doing this independently. I need a job. If you know of a place—advocacy, OSINT org, think tank, left media, etc—where I could take this work in-house, pls let me know. I admire the folks making independent work for them, but I am collapsing under the weight and the lack of impact.
A few minutes ago, two ICE flights operated by Journey Aviation landed in Eswatini, likely another third-country removal of immigrants to a maximum security prison there.
Nineteen people have already been sent there on previous ICE flights in the last nine months. Only two have been released.
He came to the US 35 year ago. He worked in construction and built a small business. He sent 3 kids to college.
Now he's dead at the hands of ICE. They claim he "weaponized" his car against them. Sound familiar?
@adriancarrasquillo.bsky.social on the latest casualty of Trump's deportation regime.
If you obsessively look at policies and platforms as a to-do list, and ignore everything else, you are extremely easy to manipulate.
Look at John Fetterman. Look at “anti-war” Donald Trump.
The only inoculating force to grifters like this is to study their character. Can you trust their judgment?
Let me assure you, if public schools had the ability to winnow down their student enrollment year after year as kids failed to meet standards, their academic performance would look dramatically better as well.
The majority of humanity lives within a relatively small bandwidth of latitude. This #map is one of my all time favourites. It was created by radicalcartography.net in 2008 and remains a true classic today: buff.ly/2DJXO9z
we joke about “but her emails” and “the caravan” and “theyre eating the pets” but the only reason you immediately know what im talking about is because the republican party, as one and in unison, made these the only things they would talk about. they forced these talking points into the zeitgeist
In the well-over 100,000 documents written by founders included in the Founders Online database from the National Archives, no one uses the phrase "God's noble experiment."
No one.
The “vibe shift” proclaimed Nov. 2024 - Jan. 2025 was just some elites—in business, media, law, and some higher ed admins—who kinda liked the fascism and gave themselves permission to accommodate it.
That’s all it ever was. A close presidential election is not somehow a binding cultural referendum.
1000 evaluators given identical resumes & told candidate used AI. Only difference on resumes was candidate’s name: Emily vs James. Study found women using AI are evaluated as less competent than men who use AI...To evaluators, women’s AI use signaled inability, while men’s AI use signaled initiative
I got angrier and angrier as I wrote this for @damemagazine.bsky.social. The collapse of this country’s civic morality dovetails with the cruelty and corruption that dominates policy. The rest of our institutions are being dragged down by or are abetting it. That’s the thing on my mind this 4th.
It's not left vs right within the party now. It's about who is fighting like hell during this emergency for democracy and against corruption, and who is acting like this is a normal political time.
There’s a special kind of irony in watching the “shall not be infringed” crowd twist themselves into knots insisting birthright citizenship shouldn’t exist. It’s amazing how flexible “absolute” rights become when they’re someone else’s.
The idea of the Supreme Court dissenters that citizenship is a “privilege” that only some deserve rather than a basic right for everyone born in the U.S. is in accord with the view that suffrage is a also privilege rather than a universal right. In both cases, they think universality demeans them.
The thing about social media age restrictions is that it treats today’s internet as an inevitability we all just have to deal with. The internet (and the WORLD) wasn’t like this until like four dudes were allowed to own & monetize as much tech real estate as they wanted. Fix THAT problem.
The three branches of the United States government, as delineated in the Constitution, are the God Emperor, The High Council of the Six Ayatollahs, and the Federal Reserve
Qualified immunity is a Calvinball nonsense doctrine, woven ex nihilo by the US Supreme Court
Its sole purpose is to protect government officials from the consequences of their own bad decisions, when they violate the rights of the citizenry
It has no basis in any law passed by Congress

In this case I think that reliable D voters are what I mean, and I think the thing that most of them share is wanting candidates that fight. Some of these voters are more left. Some are more moderate. But a trend line right now is that Dem voters want fighters.
