Chevra kadisha rosha, cat lover. Good Hungarian paprika is delicious in almost any savory dish. She/her.

This is a thread about why I’m in a chevra kadisha, or more specifically, why I do taharah – the act of ritually preparing a dead person for burial. Sometimes people act as if it means I’m a particularly good or giving person, but I don’t see it that way. 1/6

I watched the first few episodes of East of Eden and I’m beginning to think that Steinbeck guy wasn’t a lot of fun to hang out with.

Spent some time this morning putting together packs of menstrual supplies for folks who are struggling to afford basic needs.

One would think if they were going to block off our street with a bunch of heavy equipment so we and our neighbors can’t get our cars out, they would have put up some signs or otherwise warned us in advance. One would be wrong.

Looks like they’re cutting the old pole into sections and lowering them to the ground, dashing our hopes of seeing a helicopter flying away with it.

I asked one of the workers about the helicopter and they said it was for another job down the hill. They may change out the pole on our side of the street at some point as well.

I suppose it’s a good thing we were barricaded in our home today by heavy equipment because we had planned to go get our flu shots today and now I have a fever of 101F

They used a chain saw to cut off one of the cross sections with transformers on it from the top of the old pole and now they’re lowering it to the ground.

They are still working. A helicopter has been hanging around here all day and is no longer here. It seems like a terrible waste of fuel. We’re wondering whether it will come back to lift the old pole up and away.

The top of the power pole is now in this trailer. We think some of the other junk in the trailer may have been stuff they used to cover the hole they dug a while back for the new pole. At the time we thought the equipment for that was putting in a pipe for drainage.

Alt text included. My apologies for missing it on the original post but I was a mess reading it.

Sad to see @ms.now is making all the women anchors act as advertising billboards to shill their sweaters today while all the men get to keep their dignity and wear their business suits as usual.

If you need 100-3,000 whistles you can get them for free.

People in California who are facing a terrible ICE surge: remember that if you need whistles, we are still sending them out for free. In fact, we just passed 1.7 million whistles sent out. linktr.ee/3Dwhistles

NEW: A new USPS policy will eliminate evening mail pickups from select post offices across the country — a change that will eventually slow pick-up and delivery times for around 70% of zip codes in the U.S. We mapped those zip codes to help you figure out whether your mail ballot could be affected👇

(With thanks to @miriamanzovin.bsky.social) Sanhedrin 75: A man set his eyes upon a certain woman and passion rose in his heart, to the point that he became deathly ill. The doctors said: He will have no cure until he has sex with her. The Sages said: Let him die.

Jews, please remember: It’s not that you don’t have to fast if it may harm your health, it’s that you’re not *allowed* to fast if it may harm your health. Please take care of yourself, and may you have a meaningful Yom Kippur.

This medicine took way too long to become available to cat lovers. I'm glad these folks don't have to go through the black market any more to get something with a 90% chance of curing an otherwise fatal disease.

Reveal@revealnews.org

The treatment for a fatal cat disease wasn’t legally available. So cat lovers created an international black market. The cat drug black market, and why we needed it in the first place, on the next Reveal.

many states, including California, also have an option to drop your ballot off directly at a elections office dropbox or election center and avoid USPS on the way back all together, which I'd recommend if possible.

If your state votes by mail, put your ballot in a mailbox AT the post office. Dont send it like regular mail. It's TOO IMPORTANT

Hey #Jewsky it's not too late to sign up for #10Q - one question for each day of the the High Holy Days. I've been doing it every year since 2011 so it's part of my annual practice of reflecting on the past year, plus it's fascinating to see what's changed over the years. I highly recommend it.

Bookstores are great but some are terrible at marketing. I just got an email from a bookstore promoting their "brand new" location in my city and inviting me to come to their Labor Day book sale, but I looked through the email twice and nowhere does it mention the address of their store. Sigh.

To be clear, the "bike lane" here is between the white lines and the curb. Which I suppose might be okay for Flat Stanley but is clearly inadequate for three-dimensional humans.

Hi! I'm looking to speak to anyone who is finding ways to resist/work around mandatory AI usage policies at work. Mostly games industry-related, but happy to speak to anyone adjacent as well! Published quotes can of course be anon if desired. DM me here or email at luke@aftermath.site, thanks!

I still can’t get over him saying, “I won’t dictate to anybody…” immediately followed by, “It needs to be” this and that. He appears to be blind to his obvious need to control everyone around him.

Hey Platner staff, she told you not to come over. Try to take "no" for an answer for once.
