Jordan Bardella, No 2 in Marine Le Pen's fascist National Rally party is in deep shit, after investigative news site Mediapart revealed his deeply anti-semitic past. (It's all the usual anti-Jewish bollocks, there's nothing original about him). English version: www.mediapart.fr/en/journal/p...

Why do ICBs have to make a "business case" to NHS England for redundancies when it's NHS England who ordered them to make people redundant in the first place? A second slap in the face for people losing their jobs in an increasingly pointless reorganisation. #NHS www.hsj.co.uk/integrated-c...

hsj.co.ukFresh delay as ICB staff await compulsory redundancyAround 50 staff facing compulsory redundancy in an integrated care board cluster have complained of a two-month delay as they wait for NHS England to sign off their departures.

Totally agree with John Gruber here. Kagi is just better search (probably more important in your life than you think). Better results, no ads, no "promoted" links, and no horrible 'AI Summary'. (Kagi gives much more useful AI results, but only if you ask for them). Give it a try. bit.ly/49uPdYa

Turns out I was giving Polanski too much credit on Ukraine. What the fuck is he talking about here? Putin has an ICC warrant for the industrial kidnapping of tens of thousands of Ukrainian kids & rewarded the soldiers who massacred civillians Bucha with medals for their ‘bravery’

Péter Magyar calls on Hungarian President Tamás Sulyok to resign: "He didn't say a word when thousands of Hungarian children were abused by pedophiles — pedophiles who were appointed by this govt, awarded by this govt or pardoned by this govt... Resign... We don't need the puppets of the mafia."

A lesson we in the UK need to learn... fast.

Hungary should be a lesson to third-party curious Americans. You don't defeat an autocrat by fracturing the opposition. You defeat them by uniting to fight them...completely uniting...it takes everyone pulling in the same direction

How on earth can the trip planned by King Charles possibly go ahead with Trump making statements like this?

Peter Stefanovic@peterstefanovic.bsky.social

BREAKING: “A whole civilization will die tonight" Donald Trump has issued a statement on Truth Social, seemingly referring to his deadline for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. He’s completely mad

Another one of those pointless interviews on the BBC where a so-called Trump "insider", this time Ezra Cohen, comes on and just repeats Trump's lies and distortions unchallenged. "Trump supporter supports Trump" isn't news and isn't interesting. #r4today

The bottom line…. Please god listen, Labour. For all our sakes you must genuinely rethink and reset. Stop gaming your moves through the nasty prism of the rightwing media and speak to your core voters instead. They can come back but only if they believe in you again.

Fascinating stuff. Seems to me the biggest shift was between 1400 and 1500. Shakespeare's language is familiar to us; Chaucer's ain't.

If you liked this experiment, I published a full piece today in the same vein: a text that gets 100 years older with every section, from a modern blog post to a medieval chronicle. It's a single story spanning 1000 years of English. See how far you get. www.deadlanguagesociety.com/p/how-far-ba...

Taking off my partisan goggles for a minute, it is monumentally and historically stupid for Labour and the Greens to be slugging it out for the right to come second to the fascists.

Stat of the day. Ten years of protectionism, pro-manufacturing policy, China economic confrontation and US manufacturing employment has surely gone up? Nope. It's down. From 8.5% to 8.1% of employment. The new nationalism is many things but a job engine ain't one of them.

so a month ago I was reading @markpackuk.bsky.social’s speech on Twitter in the lords and there were obviously fake stats the government used to justify Twitter’s UK reach and its continued importance to British audiences Rob has now found the source of the data was… Twitter

Rob Minto@robminto.bsky.social

UPDATE: I've had a response from the Cabinet Office! "the statistics cited ‘19.2 million British citizens registered with X and 10.8 million families using the platform’ were provided by OmniGov, the government's media buying agency, who received this data directly from X itself."

There's a strong similarity between McSweeney and Mandelson in that both convinced their leaders they were indispensable, but when you step back and look at what they've actually done, there's almost nothing there.

It's nonsense of course. Neither the UK nor France are remotely near any reasonable definition of "third world" economies. And Italy is "poorer" than both.
