Looking forward to the possibility of Israel voting out the guy who committed genocide in Gaza in favour of the guy who explicitly declared war crimes to be an inherent part of Israeli tactics in Lebanon And then being gaslit by the media that this counts as progress

Different countries, different elections. But a year that has seen Orbán, Bolsonaro and Vučić defeated (and the GOP likely routed at the midterms next week) doesn't exactly fit the narrative of a relentless rightwards shift. Good candidates, campaigns, movements can still win.

The correct legal approach to this seems to be that when platforms start favouring some content over other, they don‘t deserve immunity for third party content on the basis that they are just platforms. They should become liable. finance.yahoo.com/media-advert...

What a monumental success in Serbia. Young people coming together, believing in change and fighting for a better future. It should be a lesson for democracies around the globe. Our democracies can only work when young people are represented and empowered, when engagement goes beyond career politics.

Obv correct. PHP also shows how failure could cascade. I stocked up with cans when Iran war started & I’ve just ordered 2x25 litre water containers. If I’m wrong, I’ve just got 2 superfluous plastic containers. If I didn’t get them and there was a disaster, I’d be screwed. Super asymmetric payoffs.

Finding some of the reaction on here to the 'stockpiling' stuff a bit odd. The Russians successfully firebombed the last prime minister's house! There was a cyberattack on a French supermarket a few weeks ago!

The threat of sanctions finally attracts the attention of Israeli media and voters. Thanks to Netanyahu, who promises Israelis a blockchain based economy to circumvent future sanctions. A massive own-goal just four days before polling day; he seems to be losing his game.

Their justification for this is that’s what ASC 740, the accounting standard for uncertain corporate income tax positions, says you should do. An accounting standard isn’t a probability assessment. You will be shocked, shocked, to learn that if you don’t discount receipts by 50%, NPV is positive.

About ten years ago, I lived in Serbia for a year, teaching German at a Belgrade school. Many of the students from back then have been taking to the streets for years, trying to end corruption and authoritarianism in their country. I deeply hope they’ll be successful in ousting Vučić today.

I love the National Theatre. I think this and Lasdun’s Royal College of Physicians are two of the most beautiful post-War buildings in London.

Imagine feeling like your country's newsmedia could at any time turn its back and begin this level of hate campaign against you, to the point that they harass you and everyone you love to the literal ends of the earth, mining you for content until your death and even after. How would you live life?

Another one here where the British press just smashed fuck out of a member of the public’s life for no good reason, just because they wanted to and nobody will stop them doing at. And they’re still going, even now.

Today's/ yesterday's weather brings home the courage and dedication of RNLI staff and volunteers. Whilst I'm debating whether to go to the shop, they're willingly risking their lives for those in peril on the sea, displaying the kind of unselfish commitment Farage so evidently lacks.

"If the RNLI finds you drowning at sea, would Nigel Farage prefer for them to ask for you to produce your passport before they fish you out of the water? If you’re unfortunate enough to be drowning without the correct identification to hand, should they leave you to drown?"

In some cases, disinformation influencers use the "Free Speech" debate as a red herring and an intentionally wrong cognitive framing of the problem, to deflect attention away from accountability for their corruption. I talked about this with @jimludes.bsky.social. youtu.be/1p5r1VLEDvg?...

Mr Leopold Bloom ate with relish the inner organs of beasts and fowls. He liked thick giblet soup, nutty gizzards, a stuffed roast heart, liverslices fried with crustcrumbs, fried hencods' roes. Most of all he liked grilled mutton kidneys which gave to his palate a fine tang of faintly scented urine

The framing of “after attack that killed 2 soldiers” is an Israeli one. It implies that there’s a reason for why entire buildings are being demolished other than an ongoing campaign of ethnic cleansing by an Apartheid state. Israel does this on ‘normal’ days too. They never stopped doing this.

This is literally the end of the rule of law. If a President can pardon people committing crimes on his behalf - and the Supreme Court says he himself can't be prosecuted for crimes committed as part of his job - then the government becomes a lawless entity able to violate our rights without limit.

The moral of the story is: 1. don't do crimes 2. if you do, don't sue people who reveal your crimes 3. but if you must, don't lie to a court about where you live 4. if you've lied to the court, don't click on random links that will giveaway your location.
