Over 2,000 alumni from Vivek’s all-boys catholic high school in Cincinnati have signed and circulated a petition demanding that he pull the ad and issue a public apology for “ignoring the moral responsibilities” of his Jesuit education. I think he’s pretty cooked.

chat I don’t think doubling down on this ad is working out real well for vivek

Genuinely wild that the leader of an org that is explicitly all about electing more dems is asking whether actually electing dems is good. Perhaps don't give this person money anymore. Either that or find a way to separate her from the organization.

i really do think that a successful impeachment and removal of hegseth is a live possibility if dems win the senate. he is a genuine disaster.

Laleh Khalili@lalehkhalili.bsky.social

Man, Hegseth's Department of War is even more buffoonish than everything else. Kinda amazed how the US military didn't just have some basic war plans they could activate. Their lack of preparedness is astonishing. meidasnews.com/news/so-much...

I don’t believe anybody spouting this kind of thing is well meaning but misguided, because it’s not possible to sincerely think that Ken Paxton or Ramaswamy winning would prove transphobia doesn’t work as a campaign strategy

considering that your average Internet tankie has the historical and geopolitical awareness of a fingerling potato, it’s interesting that they’re even aware NATO exists in the first place (which possibly could say something interesting about the motives of those making the memes they consume)

I am actually genuinely fuming about the cyber guy not knowing what PHP is. I've been fighting for fucking years to be taken seriously as a woman in tech & still regularly get talked down to & some bloke can just turn up on TV as an *expert*, without the first fucking clue.

Use a password manager (not 1pass because they’re racist). Use passkeys when you can. Turn on 2 factor authentication, and be careful about people trying to trick you into revealing the 2fac code. Do the software updates. This will keep you safe for the most part.

There were 27 miles of rope used for rigging in Master & Commander. Modern rope naturally coils in the opposite direction of rope made during the Napoleonic wars. So the production paid a shop to make period accurate cordage.

We all know the "Viggo broke his toe" story but what's another movie fact you're personally compelled to bring up every time without prompting? For me, it's the fact that Robin Tunney is wearing a wig in The Craft because of having just shaved her head to save her job filming Empire Records.

Mearsheimer’s Putin apologetics stand out because they go against the IR theory that made his career. In Offensive Realism, states are inherently power seeking and revisionist, so Russia was always going to try to regain what the USSR lost. This “look what you made me do” BS is utterly discrediting.

Edward Luce@edwardluce.bsky.social

"Mearsheimer merits attention because he lends academic respectability to those blaming the west for Russia’s bloody war of conquest. At a moment when the US has swung behind Putin's driove to snuff out Ukraine such cover is invaluable." as.ft.com/r/2861010e-b...

It’s actually shocking how dishonest this article is. Russian military aggression is presented totally passively, as if they’re weather events, and the supposed warmongering from NATO is western leaders and military figures saying “If Russia keeps bombing us we might have to retaliate”

Jacobin@jacobinmag.bsky.social

After years of warnings that the war in Ukraine could spiral into a full-on Russia-Europe conflagration, the conflict has reached a point where this is a real possibliity. It’s a prospect that threatens not just European lives but the entire globe.
