There is more representation and diversity in publishing than there used to be. Sometimes I look at YA books and think how much teenage me would have been thrilled to have these titles available to her.

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

eBay users! Don't ignore today's email, even though it looks like a boring standard update to the User Privacy Notice. They want to use your data to train AI models. If you click the link over the words "the right to object", it takes you to a page with a toggle button letting you opt out.

I've mentioned before I've updated my contracts to make sure everything in the production of my books is done by humans and not "AI"; if you're wondering what such a thing looks like, here's a clause covering that from a recent contract.

Must-read 🧵. The Dept of Ed aims to dismantle public schooling entirely; state-level voucher programs are key to the plan. As my forthcoming book shows, the “school choice” models described below put religious liberty and consumer choice claims to segregationist ends, enshittifying ed for all.

This week in Adventures with Brain Fog: I definitely had an idea for a flash story the other day. I thought I wrote it down but I haven't been able to figure out where. So maybe I didn't? Or maybe I did and will stumble across in six months?

What is your rejection ritual? I usually send the piece out again or, if I get feedback or it's been awhile since I looked it over, I'll do some revisions/edits. #WriteSky

this is the website I used to leave the church as well. the Mormon church is so abusive & stalkerish that you have to go through a lawyer and also get a notarized statement saying you want out, otherwise they won't let you out of the church. they are an actually evil church.

While the below is true, the fastest tell is actually that no publisher is going to reach out to you to ask about your work. Ever. They just aren't.

As always, when a devastating new report about book bans in America is published, I challenge you to think less about the most banned author — Stephen King is fine — and more about the banned authors who are trying to scrabble together a living from their art. pen.org/report/book-...

I don't know the order so it's either MJ transforming into a werewolf in Thriller, the Herbie Hancock "Rockit" video, or that ad where the mops and brooms cleaned the old cobwebby house by themselves (I think it was Murphy's Soap Oil).
