It took a few complications around printers and scanners on top of a low bandwidth, but from a remote corner of Pohnpei State, in the Federated States of Micronesia, I'm doing my best to make sure that the opportunities I had when migrating to NZ 30 years ago, are not denied to my NZ-born children

That's me, to the left of Andy Weir.

That thing where you start to feel like you're friends with authors whose last names are close to yours in the alphabet because you always see their books when you do a vanity browse at bookstores ... #authorlife #books

It's absolutely impossible to express how much this means and how unbelievable it seems.

👇 a pet peeve of mine. People use "the fans" to justify what they wanted to do anyway. "the fans want" a useless phrase bec there are SO many diff fans of any big show/franchise & they vary! I expected various Supernatural subfandoms to literally take up arms at some points. "The fans" not 1 thing!

Alt text: A glorious illustration of Buck, the kiwibank sheep, rampant, being ridden like a horse by the Electoral Commission's orange person. Orangey is waving. They both look happy about this turn of events. Behind them is a pink/orange/purple sky above the beehive. Text cont'd.

Hello, comrades! A quick note that some of us don't want to see posts about Harry Potter or J.K. Rowling, even dunking on them, so please don't obfuscate words. Also, try to use alt text on your images since our mute words will pick those up, too. Thanks, friends!

Also mutes take alt text into account. If you mute a word and it shows up in alt text, you won't see that post. I deeply appreciate people who use alt text!

Hi, I’m a sighted alt text user! Here are some reasons I use it: - Slow Internet on an airplane - I’m over 40, I have no idea who that celebrity is - Bluesky broke images again - My vision sucks and that text is too small to read otherwise - Conveys further context and authorial intent

🧵 Attention, Fellow SFF Artists and Authors -- here is my response to Must Read Magazines, after they presented an Asimov's art contract expecting me to waive all Moral Rights and Copyright to my art. And, I would strongly advise the following to my fellow pros…. 1/

Really missing the rubber chicken we used to have, coz I'd be carrying it around with me everywhere. When some chucklehead starts up with the "what is a woman?? hurr hurrr" bullshit, I'd hold that bad boy aloft and declaim, "I don't know about that, but BEHOLD! A man!"

It wasn't that he looked especially scary or anything, I was always a vampire-loving kid. It was that I had a pretty good understanding of the difference between real things and fake things on tv, but then they did a fancy ass dissolve that made the human DISAPPEAR and I was fucked.

Replying to @gwillow.me

I've been on the internet a very long time, and I've had more "what on god's green earth are you even talking about" moments in the last 2 years than in the previous 20. Just absolutely baffling non sequiturs, straw men, logical fallacies, malicious misconstructions, you name it. We are unwell.
