It was interesting moving out of the UK, which has gambling chain stores on every high street, to the EU where they are largely banned. However online gambling advertising is insane and I just want it to stop

Guillermo Del Toro dropping another one liner that’s exactly how I feel about AI slop, the “punishment” is built in

Also the idea that it's small devs using AI and not big business like Sweeney's just using it to increase corporate profit is pretty funny

I can't believe he's still at it, it's been days

Every time I criticise something people act like I've just thrown it in the bin whereas often I like something and just see the places where it fell down a bit. Some of my favourite things are obviously imperfect and that's not necessarily a bad thing

Amazing how trans people just wanting to exist is somehow the same as big automobile pushing for looser regulations and shittier public transport

Mark Grimshaw@markgrimshawtism.bsky.social

A reminder that the “trans lobby” is just trans people going about their lives, and the “fight” being referred to is JK Rowling using her money, power and influence to endorse policy that is killing trans people. I’m amazed she could move to type a new essay with the layers of blood on her hands.

We are already living in a world where barely anyone is able to write a crappy first novel and try again, let alone hone their art over many years, and this is only going to make things worse because every first novel is going to be the same first novel

I have finally been reading the last part of The Book of Dust, and honestly I admire Pullman for trying to examine mental health and marginalised people through the lens of daemons. There are lots of interesting little moments that are really well realised

Also the villain of the piece is Lyra's uncle, who worships his sister (Lyra's mum) who died in the original trilogy. He is somehow high up in the same organisation as the sister but never once mentioned in the original trilogy

However, I do not think this was a good thing to explore through a story about Lyra becoming a boring adult and having to go on a quest to find 'her imagination' which for some reason involves falling in love with a man eleven years older than her who met her when she was a baby

Malcolm Polstead is fine in the first book when he is a kid, but in the two following novels he is both a university lecturer and a spy, and incredibly competent at all times. He comes off as both a Mary Sue and a bit of a self-insert

For all the bits that I did enjoy, giving Silent Hill 2 an over the shoulder shooter camera and filling it with jump scares is fundamentally at cross purposes with the atmosphere of the original

I don't mean to make anyone super depressed but the end result of people talking to AI versions of their dead loved ones means that death will inevitably become meaningless to the living, and can only lead to lack of empathy to others and violence

I think the internet brain worms thing of this year I'm still most hung up on is when a couple of people called me 'unsafe' because I didn't think Harry Potter ignoring Voldemort's chosen name was the same as deadnaming a trans person
