Governor JB Pritzker@govpritzker.illinois.gov

Donald Trump and his administration are telling you that you’re on your own during a hurricane, tornado, fire, or flood. Know that Illinois will keep fighting to make sure you’re protected when disaster strikes.

My retirement plan is: 1. Hit the lottery 2. Start a dirigible drone company 3. Have fun Did you know that drones can't record audio because of the prop noise? But dirigible drones (LTA) can! #blimpingainteasy

Faine Greenwood@faineg.com

It genuinely does suck and is *bad* that it feels like there’s almost nowhere to go for people who 1. Want to work on robotics (like drones) and 2. Don’t want to build weapons.

In one day, two politicians - Bolsonaro in Brazil and Vucic in Serbia - with ties to Trump have lost surprise elections thanks to high turnout. The rise of the international far-right is not inevitable.

Lula has been reelected president, Brazilian media has now called. An extraordinary comeback for the left-wing politician who trailed by 2 points in round 1 but managed to hold off Flávio Bolsonaro, the former president's son.

This thread comes to a close... ... as we now have a final result. Let the records show that, with 92% of the vote countywide, Lula is up 3.3%. (Can he end up doubling his 2022 margin?)

The thing here is that a lot of racists are white people. And I am often disappointed to discover when I *do* know someone racist. It is kind of a gut punch. A much worse version of discovering someone is "into" astrology or MLM. (Plenty of white folks into those too!)

This post is unavailable.

As someone born in the commonwealth of Virginia when folks say "wait where are racists?" I think "what magical place are you from?"

Almost all of the folks mentioned on the thread are good as well especially: NIN TV on the Radio Johnny Cash Nirvana Folks who aren't on the thread but should be? Tracy Chapman Dolly Tori Amos Willie Nelson (feeling some gender involved...)

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

I agree with Matt here. I also guess that this particular Bsky thread is not going to get *him* to change his mind. The larger point: that *most* Americans became aghast at ICE only *after* they murdered two white American citizens - doesn't mean elites shouldn't have been anti ICE from the start

super unpopular because Americans, in general, like immigrants. Most immigrants are *more* law abiding than existing Americans! Most immigrants work *harder* than existing Americans! Most immigrants *also* don't want murderers/rapists in their communities! This is the heart of the polling issue:

If you ask Americans whether "good" immigrants belong here or "bad" immigrants should be deported then they tend to say YES. The right-wing portraying all immigrants as EVIL blew up as soon as it ran into reality pretty swiftly.

despite "border security" being an "unpopular" issue. Americans have always been pro-immigrant because almost all of us are here because of immigration. Unlike many of Trump's other positions - the Stephen Miller wing of the White House always thought being anti-immigrant *was popular*!

When Trump descended the staircase talking about Mexican rapists and murderers he defined the terms of the debate: getting rid of evil scummy dudes. The people who voted for him wanted to get rid of evil people - when it turned out Trump wanted to get rid of all brown people - the position became

Total respect for NBC's Monica Alba, who asked Trump exactly the question he needs to answer. By refusing to answer, and attacking her, he has effectively told the world that no, sexual abuse allegations do no mean a thing to him. Imagine if she wasn't there. We'd be the poorer for it.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

😳 WOMAN REPORTER: Do sexual abuse allegations mean nothing to you, sir? TRUMP: Wait. Wait! Wait wait wait. Slow down. Who are you with? REPORTER: NBC, sir. But they are very serious sex abuse allegations TRUMP: Quiet! Isn't she a fresh person? You're a horrible little reporter, aren't you?

Once mass spam texts were made legal, younger donors vanished, leaving a grassroots fundraising machine that subsists on squeezing vulnerable seniors, some of whom give hundreds of times a day. It’s a horrific model. Consultants get generationally wealthy, and the party hollows out its future.

Jake Grumbach@jakemgrumbach.bsky.social

We found that as of right now 73% of your campaign donation goes back to the consultants and vendors (!!!), four times more than just 20 years ago. Only 13% to ads. Even I was shocked.

I only play the tiny version but I love the course and the clubhouse and the entire collection of DC residents enjoying a nice day there:

Alex Kirshner@alexkirshner.com

East Potomac costs $42 to play and hosts thousands of people each year. A lot of the players are beginners. A lot of them don't have that much money. A lot of them are black. This is the course Donald Trump has decided shouldn't exist, and in the past, he's been fairly explicit about why not

If he came to Charm City the reaction would be better. #ravensflock #ravens

I know I'm a broken record on this, but one part of what is going on is that people have literally no idea what the US immigration system actually is; effectively, that there are no pathways into the country legally for someone who wants to wait in line.

Greg Sargent@gregsargent.bsky.social

New Marist poll of Texas finds 61% say undocumented immigrants should stay in US if meet certain requirements. Only 35% say they should leave. A majority of noncollege white men (Trump base) says stay. Supports my case (see piece/thread below) that Trump opened way for new pro-immigrant consensus

I posted a joke the other day about how my kid wanted a Mickey song that didn't exist, and a bunch of people were like "just AI to make it." I understand needing to please a toddler, but man--that's just not how I want him to think about music at all. It's not a vending machine.

this is the ultimate end point of capitalism, ai will completely atomize everyone and there will be zero shared experiences. there will be no culture, only pure consumption. this must be resisted
