What this piece says—and then derangedly refuses to hear itself saying!!—is that seniors spend less money because the American work force got its stable, guaranteed pensions taken away and replaced with personal investment savings. And then it wonders why they're risk-averse with the money!

The third piece I’ve read in as many days “concerned” that Americans are ”sitting on capital” that needs to be “freed up”. www.theatlantic.com/economy/2026...

On Supreme Court expansion, “how do we avoid touching off a race to the bottom,” you ask? What are they going to do in response? Artificially shrink the Court to 8 for a year? Attempt a coup? Reverse the Constitution and 250 years of precedent to put one criminal president above the law? What if?

Steve Vladeck@stevevladeck.bsky.social

Calls for expanding #SCOTUS are entirely (and increasingly) understandable. But as today's "One First" explains, there are at least four difficult questions that those who support expansion should have to answer—especially as compared to other possible reforms: www.stevevladeck.com/p/bonus-257-...

Reminder that Dems likely need 52 to accommodate for Fetterman’s disloyalty.

Daniel Drezner@dandrezner.bsky.social

Based on recent polling the true toss-ups would be Maine, Ohio, Iowa, Texas, Kansas, Alaska, and Nebraska. If Democrats win three of those seats they’d have a 51-49 majority.

Georgia won’t let anyone give a voter standing in line water no matter how hot it is or how non-political they are. But 5 large from the president for voting his way? No prob!

Remember, they prosecuted Aaron Swartz and drove him to suicide for hacking one system with the goal of making academic articles freely available to the public. Sam Altman hacked 1000s of sites with the goal of being a trillionaire.

[Bernie winter jacket gif] I am once again urging anyone who thinks that technology has never liberated people from drudgery to read "The Sad Irons" chapter in THE PATH TO POWER

Boo!-per Lund@cooperlund.online

Just because something doesn’t fully liberate from drudgery doesn’t mean it’s not a useful tool for some people, I don’t think this is too hard to understand. I still do laundry but it takes a couple hours instead of a day of labor.

The Trump White House will sabotage mail-in voting, blocking before and disputing after, disenfranchising Americans however they can. The Roberts Court will make up some BS to allow it. It’s wrong, it isn’t fair, it shouldn’t be. But it is. And it’s beatable. Big numbers in person and they lose.

The term “transphobic” is so inadequate for bigotry like Hegseth’s. He doesn’t fear trans people like some fear spiders or heights. He hates them with a passion. It’s an evil choice, not a psychological malady.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth used a transphobic slur while speaking at the Iowa State Fair Monday, where he appeared in support of Republican Rep. Zach Nunn, who is running for a third term in Congress.

note: the GOP didn't do Project 2025, Heritage & allies did. so don't let Dems do Project 2029. Let a lefty coalition do it. And make damn sure that juristocracy-ending jurisdiction-stripping the centerpiece of court reform, not weak-ass court expansion.

mtsw@mtsw.bsky.social

If the Dems do a Project 2029 type thing of shovel ready policy papers it's gonna be a lot of shit like "loan forgiveness for pell grant recipients who start business" when it should be "we asked 50 retired OEM dealer relations lawyers how to fuck over car dealers and here's what they said"

Ross hates liberalism because it brought us fascism, which he's indifferent to positive about. (I saw a line like that referring to the tankies/campists of the horseshoe left—which Douthat isn't but it fits—though when I searched for it I couldn't find it. Anyone know of the original?) 5/x
