Microwaving is the best way to cook corn. It steams in the husk w/o boiling away sugars, the silk slides off w/o having to be picked off in strands & anyone watching is impressed AF. Up to 3 fit in a triangle at once. Use 3-4 minutes an ear, rotating them along their axis once so they cook evenly.

Elsevier claimed they should get 88% of the Anthropic settlement for an academic book I coedited in the mid-90s, with me, my coauthor, and Academic press entitled to 4% each. Elsevier's sole involvement was having bought Academic press years after publication.

Trump: The fake news only covered the ass part. They said 'what the hell was Trump doing talking about a man's anatomy? He was talking about his ass.' I studied his ass to see where the power came from

I can't really believe it but it seems to be the case that the Times has not covered a credible accusation of rape against the President of the United States, but has two solid stories on Obama's cheesecake factory quip.

It's amazing how editors will say "we can't see inside this public figure's mind," "we can't assume their intentions" — and then write stuff like this.

FFS, NY Times!! He is not pursing “economic incentives” to “secure an end to the war in Ukraine!” He is giving Putin this money in exchange for gifting Lukoil to his friends, family and Middle Eastern bag men!

This is the most clear-cut defamation suit between two public figures I've ever seen, especially with the retraction demand, and weeks passing with nothing after a response from Scott's counsel. It's not *quite* enough for Hasan to win an offensive dispositive motion, but it's close.

DocDanPgh reposted

my default on defamation suits is also that they will all fail because actual malice is an incredibly high bar to reach but hasan might have a shot with this one, it seems pretty bad it probably still fails, I'll let the lawyers chime in, but...

I grew up during the long 90s tail of satanic panic in an extremely culty church town and my spider senses are tingling with this tech bro talk. Once you see patterns, you can’t unsee them.

The appropriation of social justice and disability activist language by big tech parallels the way fundamentalist religious groups will appropriate and twist scripture to condemn and control. Their side is not just good, it is righteous.

this remains, to me, the single most baffling thing that happens regularly I know it’s a power thing, but how the fuck are SO MANY dudes apparently sending unsolicited dick pictures 24/7 what is wrong with men

Kevin M. Kruse@kevinmkruse.bsky.social

So hard to pick a favorite part of this article. Pretending that sending unsolicited dick pics at 53 was a “youthful indiscretion” is good, but don’t sleep on the argument that his wife forgave him for subjecting other women to unwanted nude photos so everyone else should too

research your local elections! the reason I haven’t turned in my ballot yet is that my wife and I are still talking to folks about some local city council and school board stuff! local things matter even if you can’t vote in a national swing race

Ben Novack@titlecharacter.bsky.social

I cannot emphasize how weird/frustrating it is to be in Philadelphia right now - my federal *and* state reps are running unopposed and Seth Shapiro's governor's race is the most exciting, uncertain thing I can cast a ballot for. Like, I'm gonna vote. But.

Schooley@schooley.bsky.social

That this is in THE WASHINGTON POST is almost too much irony to bear.

It’s been the party of rape for a long long time now. Of course some Democratic politicians are probably predators too, but they keep it a secret and would resign in disgrace if caught- not make attacking women’s protections and autonomy and demeaning women their central policy priority.

The allegations against Donald Trump for sexual assault seem to have a common denominator: He is physically violent and intentionally inflicts pain on his victims. He likes to slam women and girls up against doors and walls as he roughly manhandles them. Donald Trump is a sick and twisted person.

The US is not about to have a free and fair election. The state has put its thumb on the scale to favor the ruling party in multiple ways. It's a mostly free, somewhat unfair election. But still one where the ruling party can be overwhelmed by numbers. Hence the term "competitive authoritarianism."

Even if a DEM Cong codified guardrails, SCOTUS dominated by corrupt conservative ideologues wld "originalism" a justification for invalidating all/part of pro-democracy laws. Until Cong reins in SCOTUS, SCOTUS will assert judicial review & use pure instrumental dogmatic reasoning for partisan ends.

It is atrocious we have to operate under this constant credible and explicit threat from one political party, the fact we keep calling it a “free and fair election” needs some light revising
