Another pointless unfunny cartoon from the Telegraph's Patrick Blower.
He's understood he should try and connect two bits of news together, but has no idea how to do it with aplomb or humour.
Morning.
Some Lula supporters apparently shouted his name out their window when it was announced he won and a cop pointed his gun at him and they took what is possibly the greatest image of a cop ever taken, like genuinely this would go hard as a cover for a Rage album its so poetic.
Makes sense to scrap standing charges on gas bills. It will reward people trying to use less. It's a redistributive policy but also one that could reduce gas use overall
Will also help people switching to heat pumps who still occasionally use gas for cooking (currently over £100 p/a for the option)
New post: The Big Picture for the forthcoming UK Budget that the media largely ignores

Because of tax rises already set in place, as well as recent data and current plans, the UK has the strongest 'fiscal credibility' of all the G7 economies.

Super-rich get ‘double dividend’ from causes and costs of climate crisis.
They profit from polluting industries, and through the ‘adaptation economy’.
Super-rich buy govts, control means of production and think tanks.

is right. By almost every economic and financial measure Brexit has been disastrous for the UK and Nigel Farage knows it
Prime Minister Andy Burnham is right.
One estimate is of a long term hit of 4%. Another says it’s already been 6-8%. By almost every economic and financial measure Brexit has been disastrous for the UK

Oh boy, are the Right excited by this graph recently published by The Economist!
And of course none of them has bothered to read the article itself (TBF, it is behind a paywall!).
So as always, let's add a little context and explain why these kinds of comparisons are so problematic

Left: President Trump insults Norway calling it a sh*thouse country
Right: Visit Norway, the tourism board, trolls President Trump, displaying some of their best toilets on their Instagram 😅
It's easy to mock Andy Burnham choosing to fix small annoyances when Britain has so many huge issues. I get the sentiment.
At the same time, as he fixes more and more and more small annoyances, it does start to boost positive feeling.
This went on for the rest of the full hour, at which point the BBC apologised for having to go to the weather and urged viewers to follow continuing live coverage on iPlayer.
Forty-one minutes of unfiltered, unchallenged propaganda by a far right party with 8 MPs, now third in the polls.
Discuss.
Since the beginning of Trump’s second term, American democracy has been unwound at frightening speed.
Analysis by the V-Dem Institute shows the rate of democratic backsliding in US is faster than we saw in Hungary, India, Russia or Serbia
And if we don’t take urgent action it could happen here too
In the UK we are facing an unprecedented coalition of hostile states, enormously wealthy far-right individuals prepared to spend many hundreds of £millions to swing elections & a media & social media ecosystem which they almost entirely control - we are simply not ready

This is just the maddest argument. These people would trap us in poverty to keep a decade old commitment, which no one ever actually made, to an electorate which no longer exists.

Almost nobody saw it coming. I spoke to Jocelyn Timperley at BBC Future about why.

The BBC trying very hard to be fair to both sides, but at the cost of taking overt racism at face value here by not reporting what the group was chanting, or what its banners said, but instead reporting content from its own website in what is supposed to be a news report about the protest
