Mind you, Germans under Hitler didn't have knowledge of the very clear historical example of Hitler.

Marci Shore@marcishore.bsky.social

I've taught European history for thirty years. Americans have always asked me how the Holocaust was possible, how Germans could have enabled a madman reveling in mass murder to carry out his plans. Now we can see in real time how this is enabled; now we Americans have front-row seats.

Donald Trump must be removed from office for threatening war crimes and genocide. Speaker Johnson: bring the House back into session. Invoking the 25th Amendment and impeachment must be on the table, but Congress should also move on a War Powers resolution to stop Trump.

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre just found a way to alienate even more potential female voters: he went on Joe Rogan. The sweeping two and a half hour conversation covered everything from kettle bells to seed oils. I know, because I watched the whole thing. Now you don’t have to:

The more I learn about Carney’s budget plans, the more I understand why his wife always looks so sad and defeated. I’m done giving him the benefit of the doubt. He talks a good line but actions speak louder than words.

Joe Rogan: "Rights lost are never regained...so how could you reverse that?" Poilievre: "We did regain our rights after COVID." JR: "Which rights did you regain?" P: "Well, all the mandates are gone now." JR: "Of course, but those were ridiculous anyway." P: "Yeah. They were ridiculous."

It's been a year. Have you seen Carney show any thinking other than that private investment will fix everything? Any evidence of adaptability or willingness to listen? Any clear moral compass? He seems *extremely* narrow and rigid if you ask me.

A lot of people say AI isn't very good for the world and its outputs are routinely unreliable, but these haters fail to see how it's revolutionizing how we incinerate schoolchildren.

To strike 1,000 targets in 24 hours in Iran, the U.S. military leveraged the most advanced AI it’s ever used in warfare. Anthropic’s Claude partnered with the military’s Maven Smart System, suggesting targets and issuing precise location coordinates. https://wapo.st/46BFe1T

Replying to @lquispel.bsky.social

carney has capitulated to trump at every turn. his base in canada has gobbled up his lies since he was elected. he lies to canadians and the world (davos speech) and does the complete opposite. he's a fucking bank weasel.

Trump’s attack on Iran violates UN rules Canada has agreed to uphold. It contradicts numerous values PM Carney claimed he supported in Davos. Endorsing illegality, violence, & destruction over dialogue and peaceful resolution is not what Canadians were promised, or support.

"What exactly do you expect Carney to do / not do?" A thread of 50 specific items (with links, and not in any particular order), a large fraction of which are in line with warning signs we pointed out early on and were told to be quiet, wait and see, or trust his 4D chess acumen. 1/??

ITS CYBER MONDAY ITS GIVING TUESDAY ITS MENTAL BREAKDOWN WENDESDAY ITS THANKSGIVING THURSDAY ITS BLACK FRIDAY ITS EXISTENTIAL DESPAIR SATURDAY ITS SMALL BUSINESS SUNDAY i would like all of this to stop

Can't believe the NDP are so bad at this that they colluded with Poilievre to pass this atrocious budget and they did it in a way that only the Cons look like they voted against it while the NDP takes all the flak for propping up Carney's austerity and gutting the public sector

When the NDP don't have their principles they don't have anything. If their main principle right now is "we don't want an election" they should have been upfront about it instead of stringing people along until the vote because now what do they have left? Why would I vote for them?

Do better CBC. You've got a crew at the ostrich farm covering the imminent cull due to avian flu, but no one covering the several poultry farms in the lower mainland where thousands of chickens are being culled to prevent the spread of this disease. Stop feeding the ostrich frenzy. #cdnpoli

This budget does not resemble anything the Liberals ran on in the election and it is well past time Canadian media start pointing that out. It was the biggest bait & switch in Canadian electoral history #cdnpoli

Trying not to get sucked in by all these bad post-election takes. My most uncompromising take may be that I don't care how many nice things you do, if you excuse throwing out the belongings of people who live in tents. Montreal can do so much better than Projet.

If the Carney government deploys generative AI -- a product that by design cannot be trusted to provide reliable information -- to answer Canadians' tax question, it should be required to forgive the taxes of anyone who follows any incorrect answers.

Great thread here on navigating COVID as a parent as well as the media’s complicity in mass infection. The CBC has been hugely disappointing throughout the pandemic. (Looking at you, Ian Hanomansing and buddy Bogoch). You may not have marched with the freedumb convoy but you might as well have.

“If Montreal’s younger demographic wants to be counted in this election and have their priorities and concerns represented at city hall, they better take the time to cast a ballot. Because right now — and I mean this with zero ageism — the over-65 crowd seems to be voting strong.”

Ah, I see Poilievre has progressed to the stage of Trump Playbook where he *checks notes* pushes to jail his political opponents. Fun!
