A reminder, because it is almost that time of year: More children are killed by cars on Halloween than any other day of the year, by far. www.vox.com/future-perfe... If you're a parent, I hope you'll do what you can to keep kids safe. If you're driving on Saturday, PLEASE exercise extra caution.

BTW if you live in New York you can check to see which streets are closed to cars for trick or treating here www.nyc.gov/html/dot/htm...

What if you see ICE at the polls? (Don't worry! Read on for the plan!) @indivisible.org roped me in to design and illustrate a new zine! Check it out in this 🧵 - and visit linktr.ee/wewillvote to sign up for the Election Protection Program and find all the resources you need!

“So it appears that the ‘Tommy’ who questioned El-Sayed was no ordinary citizen of small-town Caro, Michigan, but a long-serving right-wing operative…. It appears he went to Caro looking not for real answers from the candidate, but a viral moment—which he got, just not in the way he expected.”

Marisa Kabas@marisakabas.bsky.social

SCOOP: 'Tommy' from the now-viral exchange with Abdul El-Sayed is Thomas Teepell, a former staffer for Republican Senator Josh Hawley with close ties to Christian Nationalist Sean Feucht. He's the son of a former Bobby Jindal staffer whose consultant work was instrumental in getting Hawley elected.

Look at the shabby state and increasingly authoritarian trajectory of the country and ask yourself if we can endure 2 more years of a lawless Trump administration wreaking havoc with no check from Congress, then vote accordingly. This is not the time for a protest vote or purity politics.

🤡 Sen. Eric Schmitt, who made a fool of himself today wrongfully attacking Jack Smith, still pushed unwarranted attacks against him. Republicans are disgraceful crooks. @TMZ

There is a regional U-17 girls' club ultimate frisbee team in North Carolina called the Kitty Hawks, sponsored by Triangle Ultimate and USA Ultimate, though it is a club travel team rather than a high school varsity team.

To recap: There are the Hawks, Hawkeyes, Seahawks, Blackhawks, RedHawks and Jayhawks. All different teams. In case it comes up, there are Cardinals in both Arizona and St. Louis. Not to be confused with the Stanford Cardinal, which is in California. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

A photo of Donald Trump inspecting the scale model of the Trump arch with drones, snipers, and golden statues was unavailable due to reporters being banned from the briefing. So, here is Hitler and other top Nazis inspecting a scale model of a planned Triumphal Arch in Berlin, circa 1939.

"All the while he loved the People just as much as he feared and detested Persons, and he planned to do something historic. Certainly! He would give each family that five thousand dollars a year just as soon now as he could arrange it". [Sinclair Lewis - It Can't Happen Here]

Ben McKenzie@benmckenzie.bsky.social

This is literally a plot point in “It Can’t Happen Here” by Sinclair Lewis. Written in 1935, it predicts the rise of a fascist populist who promises each family $5,000 per year if he’s elected.

Your regular reminder: If the Russians stop fighting, the war ends. If the Ukrainians stop fighting, their land will be occupied, their leaders will be killed, their history and language will be erased, their children will be kidnapped to serve Russia.

I dropped in very quickly to my Instagram stories with the first draft of my thoughts. Tl;dr is there multiple forms of grief. I’ll be on MSNBC at about 8 o’clock tonight, if you’re into that kind of thing.

“The echoes in Saturday's speech are no coincidence, mate. That's a premier's street-fight instincts filtered through a central banker's vocabulary, and the combination is exactly as dangerous as it sounds.”

“The United States isn’t Canada’s customer so much as Canada’s dependent, a bloke who’s wired his entire house into next door’s meter box and then starts a fence dispute.”

I work at a public library. People who want to use AI seem to have no trouble doing so. People who don't want to use AI have a harder time. I crowdsourced and then finalized this document "How to disable or avoid intrusive AI" and then gave it a short URL: notoai.org Please pass along if it's useful
