So interesting. Green voters are the most risk adverse while Reform are the biggest gamblers (16% vs 24% going for the million). But 18-24 is the riskiest age group and 65+ the least (28% vs 11%).

These are some striking stats that deserve a closer look. I think this visual comes from this article about Labour MP Sarah Sackman's comments about a lack of solidarity towards the Jewish community following recent antisemitic violence www.theguardian.com/news/2026/ma... 🧵

I've seen a few people here denying that antisemitic hate crimes are still a major or widespread problem in this country. This denial does no one any favours. We must be rock-solid against all hate and prejudice.

"Muslim adults (0.8%) were the most likely to be a victim of religiously motivated hate crime, followed by Jewish adults (0.4%)". The CSEW has problems too (respondents decide for themselves what constitutes a 'crime', and uses a longer time interval), but...

in my opinion it makes stating that 'members of the Jewish community were more likely to be victims of religious hate crimes than other groups' to be extremely misleading at best.

I don't know if this differs between religions, but is one reason why using rates might not be a great approach. In addition, we're counting crimes which may more (one victim of multiple incidents), fewer (one act of vandalism that intimidates a community), or equal to the number of victims..

Even with all these issues, the main one is that these are reported crimes. All crimes are under-reported, so we have the Crime Survey of England and Wales where a sample of people are asked about whether they have been the victim of a crime. The survey results were that...

There would be some inflation for other religions too, but likely to a lesser extent (London accounts for about a third of Muslims in England & Wales). Non-crime incidents are recorded separately so not everything reported is counted, and a crime becomes a religious hate crime based on...

'[perception] by the victim or any other person to be motivated by a hostility or prejudice based on...a person’s religion or perceived religion, or any religious group including those who have no faith in a theology'. That means that not all of the victims will be in the assigned religious group...

Despite this, the rates have been calculated using national population figures which means the true rate of reported hate crime against Jews is likely much higher (40% if stated previous trends continued, or possibly more if we just extrapolated for the ~60% of British Jews who live in London)...

Let's be honest: Elon is a generational talent when it comes to cringe. One of the greatest ever to do it. He could have easily stayed out of the public eye and funded a PR campaign to turn himself into Tony Stark, but he just can't help himself.

I'm going to ask my employer why we still have a presence on Twitter, and under what circumstances it would no longer be appropriate. Something I should have done a long time ago.
