My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today. Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man.

Here's Lula celebrating tonight with Erika Hilton, a transgender politician who led the drive to end the six-day work week in Brazil. Erika showed workers solidarity, they showed her solidarity back. Solidarity is how fascism loses.

Wasn’t quite ready to share this the other day, but I have just published FIVE new Hensel arrangements for strings, including four versions of Die frühen Gräber… some for real sicko low strings ensembles (4 cellos and contrabass, anyone?)

henselpushers@henselpushers.bsky.social

Fanny Hensel arranged one of her own lieder (Die frühen Gräber, op.9, no.4) for viola, two cellos, and bass, but sadly this arrangement is lost. I have been meaning to recreate it.

Ramaswamy has produced an attack ad weaponizing the rape of his opponent, Amy Acton, when she was 12 years old. It features Acton’s mother, who abandoned Acton after she was raped by her step-father, fleeing the state with her husband. Here is the corporate money helping fund that ad.

It’s a rigged casino.

Hey! The wayback machine has my 2007 interview with then Congressman @sherrodbrownoh.bsky.social ! Even the audio links work! web.archive.org/web/20070207... One of the big things I miss from living in Ohio is watching him campaign live.

CEOs and corporations are making record profits, but hardworking Ohioans can’t afford to get ahead. Our economy is rigged for the wealthy and it has to change.

Went to Burlington Coat Factory. Was stopped at the entrance by a an employee in ICE Cosplay labeled LOSS PREVENTION. Asked to individually stop for a face scan before being let in. 1 person at register with line of 10 people waiting. Other staff busy checking at the door. Left cart and bailed.

Seeing people joke about software engineering in the wake of Margaret Hamilton's death. Obviously there's a difference between what's largely euphemised as software engineering presently and the discipline she strove to create.

i was fortunate enough to profile Margaret Hamilton in 2019. A really kind and curious person. This was my favorite story she told me:

the true moral of this nasa story is this: if you present anything as a choice to management, be it testing or other safety critical work, they will see it as optional, and will default to saying no doing anything more than the minimum best practice means taking more responsibilities for delays
