My first London Film Festival screening of 2026 was the new restoration of The Devils - after Mark Kermode intro’ed he introduced a very frail Vanessa Redgrave who got a five minute standing ovation as she took her seat. The film looks incredible - Derek Jarman’s production design is unbelievable.

Universal has a good opportunity to become the last standing dream factory. Lure away talent (like they did with Nolan), snatch up excised visionaries, become the alternative to the Skydance slop machine on the way.

I think it should be a source of deep embarrassment – and perhaps even shame – that Rishi Sunak has spoken out on this before Andy Burnham has.

Daniel Thomas / Danny Tommo has today marched his private army of blackshorts to Daily Mail HQ to demand a new house for his mum within 48 hrs, after they doorstepped her for a feature on him. Quite weird to hear BBC News describe Jason Arday as “the black professor accused of plagiarism”. Is every story about a white professor going to include the relevant adjective?

Jesus Christ that Jason Arday news is appalling. The gleeful racist hounding going on from some areas of the mainstream press. Whatever that dude’s malpractice or malfeasance, there’s blood on some Fleet Street hands here.

Worth reiterating every time that this is not some cancel-culture purity test: JK Rowling has pledged more than a billion dollars of her Harry Potter money towards bankrolling anti-trans lawsuits. This finances that.

Know this actors and creatives: if you work on this show you are complicit in the active persecution of trans people by a woman currently trying to sue AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL and I hope you find the money was worth it because God knows I wouldn't be able to sleep at night knowing that

IT IS SO EASY TO JUST NOT BE A SHITTY PERSON BY ASSOCIATING YOURSELF WITH A WOMAN WHO HAS DEDICATED HERSELF AND HER HOARD OF WEALTH TO HARMING OTHERS AND YET SO MANY PEOPLE ATE FAILING AT THE FIRST HURDLE

If I had fuck you money and presumably a range of interesting career options open to me, I don't think I'd spend my labour enriching the woman currently threatening Amnesty International and plotting to photograph people in toilets.

This is an extremely bad sign. Firstly, on principle. Secondly, on economics. Thirdly, (and most importantly) on judgement. Silly headline grabbing initiatives backfilled via taking from anywhere (even structurally important funding) you don’t think people will immediately notice.

Far right pogroms targeting black and brown people and burning families out of their homes.

Ewan Pearson reposted

This is what a pogrom looks like: men in masks coming to drive you from your home. This is a collective failure of our political and media class because we did not have the courage to say no, and because too many were allowed to embrace this without shame

#BBCBreakfast: "... families had to be led to safety through the flames.. it wasn't just homes, cars were also torched by young masked men in these predominantly unionist streets, but the target here was immigrants.." This is what the likes of Reform are inciting.

It's sort of funny it's so bad, but it's also a really serious political problem. If you're unable to describe and explain who's agitating for a pogrom and why that's a bad thing not only are you not up to the job, you're actively degrading the country's political life.

There is a grave moral consequence to letting this go on. Shut down the government, have a general strike, grind the country to a halt, hit the streets. But not treating a demented administration lying about its thugs committing cold-blooded murder as an emergency? That is an emergency in itself.
