If you evade suffering you also evade the chance of joy. Pleasure you may get, or pleasures, but you will not be fulfilled. You will not know what it is to come home.

$480 Billion of imagined value gone, poof, like that, as if the stocks were never worth that much to begin with.

While global tech stocks teeter, in China they have already crashed as lofty valuations collapse under worries about AI demand and curbs on Chinese exports.

I loved this piece so much I chose it for Best American Short Stories, so I'm thrilled to hear it's now going to be its own standalone book!

Elizabeth McCracken's connected short stories chronicle a family's encounters with their eldest son's girlfriend and eventual wife. This slim collection is so engaging, you may want to read it twice. n.pr/4eWoyGn

I remember always finding it weird that my Christmas nostalgia was for 70s-style tackiness despite growing up in the 80s and 90s, then realised that it was because regular people (particularly working parents with better things to do) don't or can't keep up with cutting edge fashion.

Darryl Mott@gamerstavernshow.com

That's the bit everyone gets wrong. They try to look like the 80s/90s and they pick whatever was in fashion or what was on TV show sets at that time. Most people lag about a decade behind whatever the furniture and decor trends are because they only buy stuff when they need to replace them.

My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today. Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man.

beautiful moment in Wawa today… older dude, probably 70-75, wearing a sharp tan suit with a crisp colorful button-up underneath, waiting in line with a coffee young guy, probably 20-25, walks up and taps him on the shoulder “yo, you look fresh as hell, man” old dude might still be beaming

Noachian King, personal project illustration. "Noachian" means something so old it's obsolete ("belonging to the times of Noah"). This guy meant to be an old king of an old kingdom not existing anymore, but still attached to the throne and the power.

This is pretty funny. A crackpot group claims they see relatively recent small comet impacts all over the place, and cite as evidence structures such as — seriously — golf bunkers, gravel pits, and retention basins. Embarrassing.

Yes, it's *absolutely* like scam emails. And they're generated by people who aren't readers themselves, otherwise they'd know better than to do this. Like unironically trying to sell a colour-by-numbers book page covered in crayon in an art gallery.

For a minute there I thought that reindeer are the only deer who see ultraviolet but further fact-checking revealed they are only the most studied UV-sensing deer. So there goes that podcast segment.
