I know absolutely nothing about Lula except that i saw someone share a clip on insta of him in celebration kissing a trans woman politician on the cheek and oh my god is that a radical act for a politician in 2026 so lets fucking go

Gary Lineker was a football presenter and dared to voice an opinion and was fired. This anchor of one of the BBC's flagship political shows writes in a fascist rag and it's no problem at all. The BBC has zero credibility.

The ultrarich seem to have convinced themselves and quite a lot of other people that they are the engine of society, that without their discerning deployment of capital, nothing would happen. That's obviously horseshit. They are using capital to exploit cultures that generate opportunity and value.

The big argument against taxing the ultra-rich is that they will just go away and take their money with them. You know what, at this point, why not just let them? Why should we want these fuckers influencing our societies, driving up prices and pivoting the productive economy towards luxuries?

A new survey of 1,000 American adults found that the strongest supporters of transgender sports bans are not the people who admire women most: they are the people who hold the most hostile views about women. www.helenwebberley.com/news/transge...

helenwebberley.comAre transgender sports bans really about protecting women? | Dr Helen WebberleyThe data says no. Those most hostile to women are most in favour of banning trans athletes.

I’m not a political journalist, so was gladly surprised at the community I found here last night. To Americans anxious about the upcoming elections, a key thing we learned in Brazil that might help you: DO NOT engage with the far-right online. Don’t share rage bait. Amplify your people. Ignore them.

"Many people on the streets of São Paulo were angry at an apparent attempt by pro-Bolsonaro politicians to derail the election by sabotaging public transport in Lula-leaning voting areas across the country."ugh

Never been in the slightest bit tempted. Legalise it, regulate it, massive warning labels, regulate advertising, treat addiction as a medical and therapuetic issue. Begging this country to have an ounce of compassionate, evidence-based drugs policy

This is an excellent idea. @valvesoftware.com please do this and fix two massive games industry issues at once.

I recall someone (was it Craig P) actually pitching Valve about getting unemployed games journalists to actually curate the platform properly. We’d love to kick shit like this off into space.

I remember long distance phone charges, local toll charges, and later, roaming charges (early days of cell phones). One month when I NEEDED to spend a lot of time talking to a friend in another state I had a $400 phone bill.

I think this is a pretty lukewarm take but it’s instructive: ME2 has the better narrative design; ME1 has the better writing.

Dr. Samantha Hancox-Li@sjshancoxli.liberalcurrents.com

ME2 is such a quantum leap forward in terms of graphics and gameplay that it really disguises how much worse it is at worldbuilding and narrative coherence

Just like chickens are descended from dinosaurs, mass extinctions don’t mean that everything will be wiped out. But it creates a bottleneck through which everything that does survive through the other side usually is very changed.

Sure, we should, if we can (many cannot). But as I keep pointing out, the government itself is making no provision at all. No stockpiles, no back-up, no alternative sources. It's individuating the response to a collective problem, and that never ends well. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

The developers at BioWare know how to run the studio. They know how to make the games we all love. They should be given the first opportunity - and the federal support - to buy it and run it themselves.

We come back to the idea of Execs who really don't understand art or why people make art, in any way, finding ways to absolutely annihilate those that do, in a death of a thousand cuts and then one big 400-person cut. It's heartbreaking. The western games industry kills a NIntendo every year.

And as an aside - you should not doubt how fucking uncool D&D was in 1998 as a game, and how poisoned that particular well had been for a while. Baldur's Gate turned that around, and if you do want a road from D&D then to D&D now, it does strike me that Bioware's needs more credit than they get.

I love writing video games. It’s one of the best jobs in the world. I just cannot stand the current shape of the industry we have to do it in.

Prediction: cos new IP can't reliably cut through in the gamapocalypse, we're gonna see a lot of hidden-AI remasters of beloved games, as desperate devs try to make money off their existing catalogue. (It's already happening, isn't it?)

The takeaway is that intentional design has become even more important. Don't make a game anyone could have made. Make a game that bleeds your personal madness.
