There is hope for some of the newer voices in the Democratic Party like AOC and AES because they realize you have to actually stand for something to build a movement and draw people toward you. The old guard must all be overthrown. Their laziness and cowardliness can never defeat fascism.

Popularism has been a total failure. It does not work. Since it became the unquestioned gospel creed of Democratic elites in the latter half of Obama II, they have only had victories after titanic Republican screwups. They were not earned by Democrats. They were cries for help from the public.

If you're wearing a glucose monitor and you aren't diabetic or have some other medical issue that makes it necessary, you are already unhinged

Also what is this unhinged thing that has emerged of wearing a glucose monitor and then acting shocked when eating food makes your blood sugar rise. THAT IS WHAT IS SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN.

Even if this were viable as a concept (that there's an afterlife; that it allows conversations with others; that enslavers are going the same place as you), who cares? Oh, are you mad at me, Ben Franklin? Tough shit.

I don't know what it says about capitalism that we had almost no ride service in my region prior to rideshare apps. I want workers to get a fair wage but also for people who aren't able to drive to get rides, so I'm conflicted.

So sad

I don't know, man. Watching documentaries on people like Musk and the Theranos woman... just doesn't seem that interesting? Like, they are liars and cheats who love attention and the reason they're famous is just the scale of the lying and cheating.

I have unfortunately had a couple of these types of people in my family and they're just exhausting to deal with. They live to try to get you trust them and they try to make you feel bad when you don't, even though the burden should be on them to earn your trust back.

Everyone remembers the "it's not a tumor" line from Kindergarten Cop, but fails to understand that it takes far more courage to be a kindergarten teacher than it does to be a cop

My daughter did her first lockdown drill at 4. Her TK teacher, who was by the way an incredible teacher, told them they were hiding from robbers, and that if the robbers ever got in, they should stay hidden while he tried to fight them off. A part of me will always be thinking about that.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez@ocasio-cortez.house.gov

For years, the Trump admin has launched slanderous attacks against Rep. Omar. This morning, the administration sent federal officials to raid her home. We cannot and will not accept this unprecedented abuse of power. I stand with @repilhan.bsky.social. apnews.com/article/ilha...

If AI kills a whole bunch of people and causes untold others to suffer through some sort of apocalypse, it's less the companies would be worrying about regulations and more they should be worried that governments won't enforce normal private property laws.

A good percentage of people would certainly be willing to destroy AI data centers by whatever means possible, and if the government just refused to send police or if the government were nonfunctional, AI could be destroyed rapidly.

Yes, when the "researchers" say that AI could destroy humanity, it's stuff like this (& of course climate crisis) rather than some existential thing. Hallucinating a nuclear war that becomes an actual nuclear war is another option

It's telling that men would rather try to invent tech to replace humans' role in caregiving than step up as equal partners in parenting. Telling, that is, in that it shows how financial capitalism and patriarchy work together to dissuade men from doing "unprofitable" labor, like the work of care.

Men think women are dating to "looksmax" but really it's more like trying to weed out a guy who would do crap like this. Reading to your baby is a pleasant activity compared to diaper changing, soothing a crying infant, or dealing with a toddler meltdown.

If a father doesn't even want to read to his kid, how will he do any of those unpleasant things? He probably won't, meaning you will because someone has to. And now you're doing 90+% of the childcare plus whatever else.

But without an Internet to broadcast one's opinions on, stupid has more of a confined physical blast radius. This may have perhaps limited the average person's total daily exposure of "other people's stupid." A dose-limiting effect. (One could still enjoy one's own homegrown stupid, of course.)

America today is a country where regulators won't allow private companies to air interviews of the opposition on TV, but declare that taxpayer funded propaganda is fine.

And even the "perfect" victims are often downplayed. Witness Brock Allan Turner's rape of his victim: out in the open where two men witnessed and reported it. And yet, went to trial and got an extremely minor sentence. Later changed his name to Allan Turner to try to hide from his past.

Kat Tenbarge@kattenbarge.bsky.social

Socially and in the legal system, our understanding of responses to sexual violence is purposefully uninformed and therefore limited to only “perfect” victims (who don’t really exist), so that we don’t have to actually combat sexual violence or believe victims or hold perpetrators accountable.

What if every mayor and member of every city council was a Mamdani type? Every governor and member of every state legislature? Every member of Congress? Every president? Like just think about that for a minute. Every elected official just doing stuff people want instead of being crappy.
