There is only one solution that will save these jobs and put Canada back in the driver's seat: we need to nationalize Stelco.

The American CEO who bought Stelco is openly admitting that he purchased the company to sabotage it. This is why the Liberals should have never approved Stelco's sale in the first place. When you give away ownership of a critical industry like steel, your economy is forever under another's thumb.

Remember the early days of Covid when people were speculating on N95 masks and hand sanitizer by buying up the scarce supply and selling it for inflated prices; but then we made so many masks and so much hand sanitizer that you could get them super cheap? We could do that for housing if we wanted.

Yes, and the way they talk about climate change as a risk factor without drawing the connection to their own fossil gas buildout is also interesting.

You can do the same thing, buying a house and borrowing against it—ha ha, just kidding, normal people get taxed annually on their wealth via property taxes, the "you can't tax wealth, the economy will collapse!" rule applies solely to the super-rich.

Steven T. Dennis@steventdennis.bsky.social

For the fabulously wealthy, paying taxes is pretty much optional. They can borrow against their vast wealth, which is mostly an untaxed capital gain, without paying taxes. When they die, the capital gain goes to zero. And loopholes exist to bypass the estate tax too.

In Alberta a big part of the strategy is data centres as "digital refining" to produce value from additional natural gas use (and leverage the cold weather). This is not some kind conspiracy theory but clearly stated on the website describing the data centre strategy www.alberta.ca/datacentres/...
