well you see this is a small price to pay for giving computers anxiety and cranking the cost of everything by 50%

The current El Niño is likely to be the largest in at least 1,000 years and will pile extra heat into an atmosphere in which temperatures are already rising rapidly due to human-caused global heating. This double whammy means 2027 is expected to become the hottest year ever recorded.

I feel especially tired as I head into fall and have to keep reminding myself that I had a booth for 8 full weekend events, youngest teen had a broken leg, partner was out of town all summer, the house got insulation, and I drove the oldest cross country to start college. I think I can be tired

I think it was when I was rewatching “Daria” with the teens. Realizing that there was in many ways a high water mark, looking back on it from “The aftermath of the stillborn millennium”

But, again: we live on the other side of that tension & hoped-for hope— the aftermath of the stillborn millennium— w/ surveilant nightmares stranger than strange days' suffused through daily life, & every day it is clearer that those who warned about the collective cop mentality were right all along

personally I think we should just take the ai doomers at their word and shut it down if they’re telling the truth, well, good thing we shut it down. If they’re exaggerating, well, they shouldn’t have done that

Got to road trip the oldest teen out to college. I’m excited for them, and sad. Not that I’m “loosing my baby” or some shit like that, but there is this genuinely cool young adult that won’t be around to come up to me at 11pm wanting to start a 3 hour existential conversation. I miss them already

“It is completely unsurprising that people are building apps to fight back against Meta glasses and other surreptitious public recording,” EFF’s @cooperq.com told @ArsTechnica.com. Many people “have a deep revulsion to being recorded without their consent, which is understandable.”

Holy fuck a world where we dont have to pay rent, medical bills, where we have food enough to eat, where our friends and loved ones dont have to work themselves to the bone and we could actually spend all our time together

I really wish that when i ordered that new foot pedal for my pottery wheel with 2 day shipping they didn’t tell me 3 days later “they will need 5-7 days processing time” I actually needed this part 9 days ago. I have to make things for the next three weeks of fairs. Need a working pedal for that

If Hunter S. Thompson posted on Bluesky, it would be this specific thread. 10/10, highly recommend.

Hi hello I was going to do a full thread on the Great American State Fair later but it seems I'm starting early: why in the fuck are PragerU, Patriot Academy, and other far right groups the ENTIRETY of the Department of Education booth

I don’t like loud noises, I don’t care about this holiday, and I understand perfectly why people get annoyed at fireworks. However I do appreciate in my neighborhood people NEED to light illegal giant mortars and enough of them choose to do this that the police are powerless to stop them.

it's crazy when you see a photo for the first time and recognize it's gonna be used as a shorthand for the era you're living in right now by historians in 100 years

I wrote about the Supreme Court's latest disgusting anti-trans ruling. I wrote about it because I refuse to act like taking away constitutional rights and allowing legal discrimination is okay just because it's happening to people who don't poll well in a diner in Ohio. In @thenation.com

thenation.comThe Supreme Court’s Anti-Trans Ruling Goes Well Beyond SportsThe ruling is about whether trans people have the same rights as everybody else—and the Court said they don’t.

Fuck the reflecting pool. This has not gotten nearly enough coverage or generated the proper outrage. People thrown in prison for 30-50 years for the "crime" ofmaking zines and belonging to a book club!! This is straight-up totalitarian atrocity. Political prisoners thrown in a gulag to rot.

theguardian.com‘This is injustice’: how leftist zines were used to sentence anti-ICE protesters to decades in prisonAdvocates sound alarm after zines were used as evidence to convict protesters of terrorism charges tied to 2025 protest at Texas ICE facility

I have a bunch of pottery to turn out for this coming weekend, and apparently the night I planned on throwing all night without sleep, is also the night my wheel foot pedal decided to start only occasionally working

Elon Musk really believes he’s the fucking god emperor worm from Dune, and it’s his solemn duty to shape the trajectory of humanity. Like in his mind, he’s justified in being worse than Hitler, because the future he will invent will be so miraculous. He’s only right insofar that he IS a worm.

This is a well written thread

not gonna bother engaging with these people directly as they're just doing the usual liberal posturing, but this is actually an excellent example of how liberals misuse statistics in conversation.
