Reupping this. There are three shitty leaders going to war right now and not one of the civilians beneath them deserve any of the harm that might befall them as a consequence. If you feel differently about civilians being harmed, one of us is getting blocked and it doesn't matter which.

Ben Blythe@visitingwriter.bsky.social

Addendum to this: Anything that even remotely celebrates the deaths of civilians is an auto-block with a side of "Where did your raggedy-ass parents go wrong raising you, you fucking ghoul."

After he inevitably ends up here, the next Democratic POTUS should extradite him straight back to Brazil in full a Hannibal Lecter strait jacket, but with a nose tube instead of a bite mask.

I know there's a lot going on but I feel it should probably be more of an above-the-fold story that members of Congress released a thoroughly documented report directly accusing the president of the United States of being a serial rapist.

i don't think anyone should run explicitly on banning online gambling but i do think that a democratic-led government should just quietly take steps to undermine the industry and create an inhospitable regulatory environment

Lula won in part by banning online gambling

intelligence is knowing that if i ever looked up anything about Magyar, Lula, or any of the other election winners i would probably not be great fans of their politics wisdom is knowing it doesn't matter because defeating the global chud coalition is all that matters for the foreseeable future

The long-serving strongman leader of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, has conceded defeat in an election that pitted him and his right-wing party against a diverse student-led opposition movement that spent two years protesting his government.

Everyone thought Lula was cooked, hopeless. Then he bought a phone and started posting and now he's gonna get a 4th term. The lesson is to never stop posting.

This has got to be the attitude: always vote against the disgusting fascist (e.g., MAGA/Trump R's in the U.S.), even if you don't particularly like the alternative. Be smart, strategic, and prevent authoritarianism, dictatorship, massive human rights abuses, etc. bluevirginia.us/2026/10/sund...

Not to ruin anyone’s Sunday afternoon, but Brazilians are voting for president today. We’ll start getting returns at 4pm ET, and, based on the results of the first round it’d be a clear surprise if Lula survives against Bolsonaro — even if polls have tightened in the last two weeks.

Bolsonaro-friendly mayors appear to be sabotaging public transport on Election Day. Buses aren’t running in Lula-friendly areas, flights and ferries mysteriously canceled. Traffic lights have gone out and people’s power cut in Salvador, indigenous people’s travel restricted

We are watching a coup d’état attempt unfold in real time in Brazil. I’m consumed by desperation.

I will scream this from the rooftops despite being a fan of stuff like Tokusatsu. There are fandom spaces for adults, there are fandom spaces for kids, there should be a healthy distance between them, and it's on adults to find that distance and maintain it 'cos kids literally don't know how.

"Are you going to abide by Donald Trump's blanket pardons of personnel involved in criminal activities from 2025 to 2029?" is a litmus question for any 2028 candidate.

Ben Blythe@visitingwriter.bsky.social

I would simply ignore any such pardons as a matter of national security. Any country that cannot punish a violent, well-heeled, treasonous movement determined to destroy it from within is not going to survive. Cracking down on these people is an existential requirement for the United States.

This! Our university is having a second consecutive year of cuts and layoffs, in a democratic supermajority state where there was zero interest in providing party funding for us even in comparison with the other state universities in Illinois. Research funding has cratered. The Democrats shrug.

Siskel and Ebert were critical of Roland Emmerich's films, so Emmerich decided to parody them in the 1998 Godzilla film. The pair ended up being annoyed by this, but not because they were made fun of, but because they'd rather have been killed off and thought the parody didn't go far enough.

Now that Wedgewood Polls has been exposed as fakers, let's consider the odd fact that this year not one but TWO polling firms put out a fake poll and then claimed it had been a "social experiment" to see if fake data would enter the mainstream. Median Strategies used the same phrase in August. 1/

We were investigating Wedgewood for faking their data and emailed them for comment this morning, ahead of publishing the findings tomorrow. They are now trying to cover up their fraud with the "we were doing a social experiment" excuse. Full story here: blog.fiftyplusone.news/p/fiftypluso...
