Lula winning is great for the planet, great for Brazil, and great for people who aren't revanchist assholes everywhere in the world, but let's not forget that it's also going to make some of the worst people on Earth extremely sad and mad. We should enjoy that, as a little treat.

New: Macklemore will donate entire $1M of his earnings from Ed Sheeran's tour to six orgs helping Palestinians — and invites Robert Kraft to match him. Says he wants to center Palestinians being killed + journalists & aid workers who keep going. "Their risk is of a far different order than mine."

This entire situation reminds me of when someone would say “Black Lives Matter” and the dumbest bitch you met in high school would start screaming “all lives matter” on Facebook like it was somehow an attack on her. Ed Sheeran/Pink/RK is that dumb bitch in high school

So many of the supposed divides in the Democratic caucus simply boil down to "this one will fight for all of us, this one will not" and for the past two years Team Fight is sweeping the board.

Sahil Kapur@sahilkapur.bsky.social

Even in this generational moment for Democrats, it’s not enough to just be younger. Primary voters need to believe the candidate has big ideas too. Markey won by highlighting his progressive credentials and casting Moulton to his right and as too tied to establishment orthodoxy.

We must stop these socialists before they tell companies who they can and can't hire, threaten executives into giving the government part ownership of their companies, pick winners and losers through selective tariffs, subsidies, and regulation, and dictate private sector personnel and HR policy.

Not to beat up on Douthat even more, but I'll just say: it has never, in all of post-war American history, been more crystal clear exactly who your enemy should be. Never. If it's not obvious to you, you are morally & intellectually defective.

In dishonor of Ross Douthat's last NYT column, I'm breaking my self-imposed ban on reading him—smug bad faith, whiny victimization, and steadfast refusal to let evidence affect opinion—and will screenshot and comment. This is the column if you want to read it yourself (I don't recommend it). 1/x

I know a lot of the focus here has been on the Dems who voted not to cut aid to Israel but I think “the majority of the caucus voted to cut aid” is a monumental sea change in Dem politics and the movement here is only going in one direction this is the most Dem support Israel will ever see again

Prem Thakker ツ@premthakker.bsky.social

BREAKING: A majority of Democrats in the House have just voted to cut the $3.3 billion/year in U.S. military aid to Israel. Rep. Thomas Massie – the leader of the amendment – was the only Republican in support.

What I'll remember most about Senator Graham is how he sent my friends to die in an unnecessary war in Iraq

Sen. Adam Schiff@schiff.senate.gov

What I’ll remember most about Senator Graham was his sense of humor and how he deployed it to move his policy positions forward. Though we did not often agree, Senator Graham was never disagreeable.

Deeply saddened to learn of the loss of my dear friend Satan, the Prince of Lies. Though we often disagreed about matters such as the appropriate role of torture in the afterlife, I will most remember how his quick wit and affable nature made our weekly golf outings a ritual. He will be missed.

Curious: Did Lindsey Graham object or say anything when Robert Mueller died and Trump tweeted something to the effect of, “good riddance”? If not, I assume that means he was OK with celebrating a man’s death. So.

Harrydoesntmind reposted

Lindsey Graham spent the last decade of his life in public service as a US Senator, trying hard to be remembered as an enemy of the Constitution who worked to destroy American democracy and exhibited occasional signs that he knew why that was bad but kept doing it anyway. I will honor his choice.

When a politician dies we see a lot of hagiographies about them. If you mention they were a terrible person IRL, you get chastised. My feeling? If you don't want people to talk shit about you after you die, don't be shitty when you're alive.

The Platner story shows how political consultants should not parachute into a state and pick a candidate. There were a bunch of solid Democratic candidates in the state. Maybe the elites don’t know better than the people who actually live in the state?

I'm glad that Graham Platner is out. But it is so disturbing to contemplate that the man who was *twice* elected president makes Platner look like an amateur when it comes to serial sexual assaults.

Harrydoesntmind reposted

Next time someone says there's no difference between the two parties, point to how the Democrats treated Franken, Swalwell, and now Platner at great damage to their party and then how the GOP treat Trump, Paxton and Gaetz. Results are the only thing that matters to them. They are not the same.

For some reason, people often forget that American Jewry is extremely liberal. Most American Jews want Israel to keep existing, but want a two-state solution and really dislike its current government. It makes sense that this group would like Zohran a lot more than Bibi!

We're a country founded on slavery and a very high-concept Enlightenment republic that held out hope for new kinds of freedom. It's a paradox. But that doesn't mean the aspirations for freedom or religious toleration were fake or alien.
