This is somehow the funniest and most appropriate typo of my name I've ever seen

Rami Islami is one of the video game industry’s most prominent Muslims. He tells Hyphen why money, language and geography still limit who gets to make games — and why he’s working to change that. hyphenonline.com/2026/09/28/r...

Devastating news today. Richard “Levelord” Gray was such a great guy. Like many of our friends, I wish I could have hung out with him again. He was full of life, a gentle soul, and an excellent level designer. He was called “Levelord” for a reason.

Epic is hosting two Unreal Engine Dev Days in Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok covering games and animation, complete with a mixer at the end They're aimed at devs and artists new to Unreal. I'm presenting at both, but we're flying in other international speakers too! www.unrealengine.com/events/south...

unrealengine.comSouth East Asia Dev DaysDev Days bring UE developers together to learn, connect, and exchange ideas. Register today and discover new creative opportunities in sessions led by Epic presenters and industry teams.

KL runs a programming track and an art track, aimed at teams new to Unreal or deep in their first projects. Outside of tips, tricks and workflow callouts sessions break down common game dev problems and show which parts of Unreal are built to solve them, holistically rather than feature by feature.

Bangkok covers games and animation too but runs a single track and leans further into art and animation. Technical art, environments, tech animation, characters and real-time animation workflows are all covered complete with a finale by M2 Animation breaking down their internal Unreal pipeline!

Having explored a few options, I've got to say @yarnspinner.dev 's Unreal PlugIn has been my favourite Narrative Design system so far. Really easy to integrate into workflows with everything compartmentalisted into components and some nice detailed information flowing in and out. #gameDev

her closing point here is why i think normal media should stop engaging in the culture wars at all. just don't cover these chuds or their views. it's not helping anything, it's not changing anyone's mind, it's simply dragging the mud into spaces and lives it doesn't need to touch.

Summerfall is looking for a 3D character artist to assist us on a new prototype by sculpting a stylised character head and hair for a prototype, based on a Metahuman model. Interested? Send me your portfolio, via DM or email liam@summerfallstudios.com!

Also, if you're in town and want to chat about your Unreal projects or are looking to swap over from another engine for a project and want to sound out if that's a good idea for it or not hit me up and we can have a chat.

I'm delivering a talk alongside the wonderful @amathlog.bsky.social on Large Procedural Systems with PCG. If you're working with PCG at a large scale, come! There's a lot covered including Biome Core, Builders, Hierarchical Generation and more. All are common problems I keep chatting to Devs about!

People talk about this stuff in terms of how much it'll suck for gaming and I hate to inform you how many MRI machines, X-Rays, all sorts of other vital machinery are just a Windows IoT Edition PC in a beige plastic box with a big magnet/accelerator/whatever attached.

One really interesting thing that seems to be pretty consistent is that the Steam Deck has actually provided a definitive min spec for PC game developers. Historically this was a bit more vibes based for a lot of folks and it's great to see something so standardised.

The footage out of Sydney overnight is abhorrent. Peaceful protesters set upon by an army of police, punches thrown at people with raised hands, people praying ripped from their knees. Is this violence the social cohesion that Labor wanted?

Was pretty keen to try Gears Tactics on the Legion Go as a successor for my Xcom addiction but it turns out it needs to login on launch which means you can't play it on flights. Really thought Xbox Offline Mode would've solved that, but it doesn't seem to do anything.

Playing Mortal Kombat 1 and... the story mode is kind of incredible? They really just made a movie where you hang out and then play the fights every now and then as a treat. Acting and facial animation are great, effects are great.. they just.. kinda knocked it out of the park.

Valve has now rejected my complaint, confirming that "I don't like muslims" is a valid reason to leave a negative review on a game on Steam This is where we're at now.

Mike Rose@mikerose.bsky.social

We had an Overwhelmingly Positive score on Steam, then these two reviews rolled in Why does Valve allow this?

These folks are lovely people. Throw them a vote. It takes like 2 seconds!

the Michelin man is kinda like a Greek god in the sense that he presides over tires and which restaurants are good

Finally got around to trying Star Wars Outlaws and it's great! It's a really solid stealth game where I can be a scruffy-looking-nerfherder and get up to shenanigans across the galaxy. I'd heard weird stuff when it launched but I'm really glad I'm giving it a try! Team did a wonderful job.

If you're testing a multiplayer game, Unreal has a great "Allow late joining" experimental feature under Editor Preferences. It adds an "Add another client" button that is shown when you run the game. #UnrealEngine

I lived off a partner for years - essentially - while working on Unfortunate Spacemen. It makes getting up in front of a crowd and talking about "my journey to success" feel priviledged and fake. But it's common and there is often no other option. Support structures matter, make sure you have one.

Frank J. Barbiere@fjbarb.bsky.social

Many full time creatives have “invisible safety nets” like bread-winning partners, trust funds, external support, etc. No shame on anyone, but it creates a false vision of success. The cost of going to cons alone on top of hoping to eat as a freelancer are untenable, IMO.

Dylan is a superb Unreal TA and every day he goes unhired I lose a little faith in humanity.

Still looking for a new job! I'm a Tech Artist / Generalist who loves pushing visual side of things, 13 years of #UnrealEngine, Tech Art, Lighting, Lookdev, Env, Cinematics, HLSL, BP, PCG, Niagara, Python as well as a Houdini & Substance skillset Avaliable mid Dec #GameDev #VFX #FX #GameArt

The worst line delivery is not by Gal Gadot. It's by Joe Pantoliano in The Matrix. He puts this random emphasis on the word "for" in "the image translators work FOR the construct". Kills me. Every time. Seat in front of me is watching it, and I can hear IT IN MY BRAIN... I still love this movie.
