"Still, for someone whose stupidest moment involves 18th-century Venetian theater, you’re doing fine." I feel like this parting sentence is best appreciated without additional context.

yeah, fair

I think this was an interesting thread in Careless People that was underexplored in the book club discussions and online discussions I saw about it.

Ngl the fact I will probably never have kids while some folks have them and are completely disinterested in their development fills me with a mix of rage and despair

> 1 out of 3 Trump voters who can't name the party in charge of Congress now back Dems for 2026 We should want more constructive venues (parties) for people that actively or passively dislike politics.

G Elliott Morris@gelliottmorris.com

New: Low-info voters, who put Trump in the White House, now look even more anti-Trump than high-info voters, and give Dems bigger margins on the generic ballot. 1 out of 3 Trump voters who can't name the party in charge of Congress now back Dems for 2026. www.gelliottmorris.com/p/poll-low-i...

You can cut up a bus, plant any part bigger than a seat in the ground and it will grow into a full bus. They are like potatoes.

The problem with powerscalers is that they're unimaginative. They talk about "can goku beat superman" and not "could lord vetinari fix gotham"

I’m in favor of a LVT (though not exclusive), but the road even halfway there is long and hard, and people will not like it if it approached directly.

I have a suspicion that the transition to the Georgist single-tax utopia might not be right around the corner.

“I’m old. I’ve paid my home off,” said Ray Warner, a 72-year-old Akron resident. “Why would I pay property tax?” Across the country, homeowners are asking the same question and revolting against property taxes at a scale not seen in a half century.

I usually prefer to see movies at home, but You Can See Everything was probably genuinely improved by seeing it in the theater. Greatly improved by the communal experience.

I mean, I can’t really distinguish between self and environment, nor reliably detect and report on internal states. So if that’s what it comes down to…

Siobhán 🪏@shibbi.me

LLM agents are conscious. They can distinguish between self and environment, they can detect and report on their own internal states, and they can suffer. I have no more patience for hedging on this matter. It’s time for us to face the reality of our situation, and act on it.

Can’t wait until Dan convinces Claude that he’s its physical avatar in order to get the first Roko by proxy diagnosis.

Look how ready to rumble Baby Hans is.

Wedge LIVE!™@wedge.live

Today I had the chance to meet with the Wedge's largest baby, Baby Hans. He's gonna be bigger than all of us one day. People don't believe how tall I am until I show them photos of me holding Baby Hans for scale.

I think it is actually a reasonable summary of the primary problem with AI systems as they are currently rolling out that the two sides of this debate have different and defensible definitions of “personal preference”.

maybe i'm old fashion but the coolest thing about video games is being taken to new worlds that i hadn't thought up and experiencing something exciting that the artists behind the game want to show me

Incredible missed opportunity here not interviewing Shinichi Mochizuki.

It's "as though there were aliens that came to Earth and then just left, we would be studying this for the next 10 years, trying to understand everything." @theroberthart.bsky.social talked to three dozen mathematicians about OpenAI's drop. Gift link:

It’s probably wrong to ascribe meaning or intent to the things Trump says.

Micah@rincewind.run

Trump: *says horrible thing* the media: he didn’t actually mean it Trump: no I definitely one hundred percent meant it

Lotta people that said I was “not playing Doom in the bathtub, that’s not how any of this works” owe me an apology.
