Would you lie to this man? EXCLUSIVE: Nathan Fielder, codirector of the Elizabeth Holmes documentary ‘You Can See Everything,’ sat down with WIRED for an extended interview—the first he’s given to discuss the film. 🔗 www.wired.com/story/nathan...
And with that my edition of #TIFF26 comes to a close. Great movie slate from Korean New Wave to Eastern European existentialism. Looking forward to plenty I didn’t catch past week. boxd.it/Xs836

Another great year at #TIFF2026 📽️! Here's my ranked list of all the films I saw at the festival:

MINOTAUR – Andrey Zvyagintsev returns after nine years and transposes his marital-strife tale against the backdrop of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. An austere, icily chilled portrait of how the personal can never be separated from the political. One of the most dread-filled highlights of #TIFF26. 📽️

Lauren Miller Rogen's #Babies takes a truthful look at child-free marriage. Read @jaredmobarak.com's #TIFF26 review:

JOSEPHINE - The first great film I’ve seen at #TIFF26. Never want to see it again; been an hour since the screening ended & I still can’t shake its raw brutality. Staying entirely within the 8-year-old’s POV makes its portrait of a child failed by every avenue of protection devastatingly powerful. 📽️

Put on billboards. Hang it above everyone’s computer. Have it messaged prompt before posting anywhere.
Or, to put it more succinctly: it’s not enough to be correct, morally or factually, you also have to be able to get people to like you. Being liked is more important than being right for the purpose of persuasion.

I wasn't planning to see The Odyssey because I was so mad about how egregiously Nolan explored similar themes in Oppenheimer, but my best friend (a Classics prof) encouraged me to see it, and I'm so glad she did. I loved it, and I finally realized why I hated Opp so much, so I wrote about both:

I went long on THE ODYSSEY for @brightwalldarkroom.com, writing how Nolan's genocidal epic makes us complicit in an apocalypse of eternal return. Very proud of this one: www.brightwalldarkroom.com/2026/08/14/s...

I'm tired of enshitifcation so I'm sharing the Intrinsic Entertainment Collaborative campaign for their bid to buy community ownership in Letterboxd. It's a long shot, but it's important to share a message about people trying to build an online community. Pledge if you can and share thru the 25th.

my hot take is that this is the actual america 250. just a ton of different people coming together, showing people what makes America weird and fun. people being welcoming. and yeah there’s some bullshit too, which is also very true to America! but the good and community far outweighs it rn.

We had dinner with my Chinese immigrant in-laws last night, and we talked about America. My MIL said that living in America, a place that values freedom, gave her permission to become the person she wanted to be. If you’re looking for something to celebrate today, I think it’s a good place to start.
