the markets have essentially become a gauge for how much corruption the government in power is going to let the business class get away with

Suck ass, The Economist

Genuinely I don't know that it comes across to people who haven't been here to watch how almost unbelievable this was, just people taking something that looked impossible and dragging it kicking and screaming all the way to inevitability.

Lula winning is great for the planet, great for Brazil, and great for people who aren't revanchist assholes everywhere in the world, but let's not forget that it's also going to make some of the worst people on Earth extremely sad and mad. We should enjoy that, as a little treat.

Why has the UK embarked on this moral panic of ADHD isn't real now?

Gareth Watkins@garethwatkins.bsky.social

This article is incredibly insidious. There's a lot in there that anyone would agree with -everyone has some level of ADHD symptoms, classrooms need to be adapted for how real children learn etc.- but the ultimate point is that ADHD isn't real. www.economist.com/leaders/2024...

the total failure of every negative policy the british government implements is always, always evidence for doing that policy even harder. then it fails again. then we just do it harder again. rinse and repeat til everything is banned

this is part of the general leftist critique of liberalism, right? you've built a system that creates the conditions for bloodsoaked psychopaths to control society, and then in one corner of the room you've put a crown and a bunch of signs around it that say no putting this on & keeping it on

I don't know why exactly anti-dooming discourse isn't seen as useless as dooming. And the doomers at least have evidence on their side on this one

youtubers, streamers, podcasters, etc are always on this beat bc they don't know how anything works & know that if they say something like this, their audiences will lap it up now & also 3 years later when they point to total gay commie revolution not happening and go "see? i was right!"

dude it's miserable how quickly the Next Fest went from a thing that was fun and exciting to explore to feeling like trudging through sewage for a single shiny penny.

But hey, if you push through and beat the odds and become a one-in-a-million success story, you too might one day have a throng of fans tweeting at you to kill yourself

a cool thing about indie animation is that it's expected to save the entire industry, every show has to look better than the things the fans grew up on or it's a waste of time, there's no union to be found anywhere, no budget for any of it, and asking the audience to pay anything to watch is illegal

caught wind of the Discourse Du Jour today (i had all fuckers blocked beforehand so no wonder i didn't see it) and y'know beyond all matters of economics studies, there's the simple q of "do economists know how to talk to people suffering without being an asshole" and the answer largely being "no"

That insane woman claiming she is a slave-owner because she thinks AIs are conscious were honestly important to find because her entire cultish group needed to be blocked

it’s worth underlining that the amount which a modern live game is not this is directly the result of devs fighting inch by inch, for months if not years, against the guy at every corporation who demands an explanation for why you aren’t doing this at all times

Morgan Johnson@poormojo.bsky.social

No joke. I think this is the most important video I have ever seen about mobile games. This guy breaks down how this game psychologically profiles you, and makes the game harder or easier in order to show you ads

You can buy a huge media conglomerate with money you don't have using leveraged debt you'll never pay off and then immediately start firing its workers, but people will still say that capitalism is compatible with democracy and is capable of "reform" or "regulation"
