> developers can also use [Fabric components] in other React applications that need built-in support for formatting, labeling, theming, and interaction. Linked brushing in malleable software is huge. Excited to give it a spin!

I wrote a blog post with my team about our philosophy behind our visualization components that drive Fabric Apps. These components naturally support a11y, value formatting, display names, theming, and interaction! community.fabric.microsoft.com/blog/fbc_fab...

Helping non-devs get the words and spaces and advocacy avenues to participate in creating for the open web and have input in protocol development has been an honor. And that's where I come from: I've seen the damage this does to non-devs folks and how it impacts us all. We don't have to keep at it.

Given their foundations in open source code it's not unreasonable to claim that the only ethical uses of LLMs for programming are in open source projects

If you have a developer education budget at work, I would really encourage you to use it on your favourite developer educators. A lot of us are deciding whether or not to keep doing this stuff, and that support would help send a signal that we should keep going. ❀️

I can think of several smart humans who might be interested in trying this out, but my general take is that if you ever liked HyperCard you'll like Scrubjay:

Everest Pipkin@everest.bsky.social

I'm very please to announce a public release of my drag-and-drop bookmarking, game-making, and wandering tool Scrubjay! Scrubjay is a weird website builder that lets you cobble together web elements, images, links, text fragments, etc into a series of nested rooms...

The best definition of "slop" I can think of: it's slop if it took the person responsible for producing it less time to make it than it'll take for the person reading it I think it's a good definition because it also captures pre-LLM anti-social behavior, eg shit emails that needed time to respond

New from our lab! #COLM2026 When people generate stories, they don't just write one prompt. Instead, they explore narrative space via branching edits 🌱 We reconstruct 24k of these edit trees 🌳 from chat logs and map edit types, story formats, how they relate to tree depth, and more!

Anyway, your problem isnβ€˜t finding the time to take notes. The problem is that taking notes is thinking and thinking has to be done by someone. women have been doing a lot of metacognition that looks like a task when it’s really thinking.

It is known that doing things slowly may not be a sell for everyone, but when you move at a speed that reflects what it looks like to be careful with people, you'll see how much relief you create. And joy. lesscomputer.ca/direct-the-c...

Why do games educators love to teach with bitsy? There are lots of great fantasy consoles, but bitsy is the simplest by design; and the fastest way to finish a (tiny) game. bsky.app/profile/adam...

i've released 21? hobby games since 2024, ALL of which benefited from bitsy teaching me how to make something out of nothing and helping me reboot my sensibilities in a post-flixel world <3

I think it's also the case that we will not be starved of understanding because of AI, but because we've been increasingly devaluing understanding in favor of results and outputs that AI fits right into the current state of scientific production.

Join us 10am at the Ferry Building and hang out with local builders. Speaking of data agency, let's chat about @larkworthy.bsky.social's awesome work on the online FoC community's Slack offboarding path. bsky.app/profile/lark...

It's Mr. Beast going "why do we need schools if I can learn engineering in 20 min from watching Mark Rober". If you don't know the breadth of what you're learning it's easy to convince yourself you're an expert

I want weirder representations of "readings"β€”the trace/artifact produced by a reader's interaction with text(s). Here playing with a cut-up "poster-ification". Cumbersome in many ways, but interesting.

This synergy, as we’re experiencing in math and coding, is pretty powerful. But confusing the two is a trap, behind which we surrender our own capacity to reason and interpret (often with the aid of tools) convincing looking artifacts.

Qt good work with commentary more than you qt bad work with corrections or disagreement. It feels vacuous but it's much more important.

platforms are always political. the protocol provides new technical affordances, but not enough to overcome the pressures, biases, and bad incentives built into capitalism on their own. loved meeting fellow builders and talking products & politics @atproto.nyc - many thanks to the organizers!

with all the deskilling and gell-manning (etc) we're gonna get from automated thinking machines, now is the time for the 'tools for thought' crowd to make tools that help you think things through for yourself. tools to do *more* hard thinking. it should feel effortful. cherish that feeling.
