This week has involved too much computer, and as a person whose job is computer, I would like there to be less computer going forward. Thank you for your attention.

Hannah is remarkably talented and a delight to work with. I couldn't recommend you hire her enough:

It’s looking increasingly likely that I’m going to need to start earning a much more regular salary than freelancing is providing, so if anyone has any leads on remote front-end dev roles please hit me up. Everyone I’ve worked with says I’m proactive, communicative & great at what I do.

It used to be that software developers built blog engines instead of writing blog posts. These days they're vibe coding apps to keep track of household chores instead of doing household chores.

tell you what lads, I am sick to my back teeth of waking up every day to find out about another figure in tech being fash, associating with fash, or funding fash; and long for the days when this caused some backlash in their immediate circles instead of a laudatory circlejerk on X The Everything App

the thing I'm contracting on has gone >15 years without a rewrite, and generally I really like it because rewrites are unnecessary, and it's not Just Another SPA (jQuery my beloved—we didn't know how good we had it) but today I came across a conditional check to see if the browser was IE5 for Mac 😅

if every single person on earth bought and maintained a claude pro subscription at $20/month, it would take 15 years for Anthropic to reach $30T in revenue what are we even doing here

Here's the official announcement of Parton's passing from her reps, along with the request that in lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library at www.imaginationlibrary.com

Dolly Parton, among a thousand other amazing things she did in her life, gifted over 330 million books to kids through her Imagination Library program. Her passing is a tremendous loss to the world, but you can support the program today to keep it going imaginationlibrary.com

Yup. I know bullies online who are perfectly pleasant offline, and what I take from that is "Oh, so you know how to behave when you might get punched." And to tell on myself, this is one reason I'm a nicer person online now than I was a decade+ ago. I stopped liking that version of me, a lot.

One of the things us an industry need to stop doing is perpetuating the 'they say this on social media, but they're a sweetheart in real life' about awful people I've had other journos say this to me about some of the most pernicious grifters over the years, some of who crossed many lines this week

if the government wants people to keep emergency alerts on there really, really, really needs to be an alert level below the current HEART ATTACK INDUCING SIREN FROM YOUR PHONE OMG PANIC, which imo, should be reserved for "active shooter within a mile of your location" and "incoming nuclear missile"

reminds me of contracting for a subscription-based publication where you had to phone up to cancel; I asked why this was the case when the software stack we used supported online cancellation—"oh, we implemented that a while back but had to revert it; too many people cancelled their subscriptions"

git has an experimental git history command as of 2.54/2.55 and it deserves more attention. Fixup, reword, or split a commit buried in your stack, and every branch built on top rebases automatically. It's already in core git, nothing to install. lalitm.com/post/git-history/
