Young people are falling out of love with technology. They want it and need it, sure, but they also hate it, feel enslaved by it and, unlike any other generation, long for the past, writes Jemima Kelly. Read @jemima.bsky.social in today's FT Edit 👉 ft.trib.al/miFZSMp

Wow, how gross and nasty. This is the kind of behaviour that makes me feel he will never actually get to be PM. Lack of empathy is surely not a vote-winner
Just look at the glee on Nigel Farage’s face as he watches a Piddington resident cry about the overt racism she, her Caribbean heritage husband, and their two children have felt in the village during the referendum. Time and again he’s showing us exactly who he is.

One reason England does so well is our second generation immigrants outperform their peers which is not true in most OECD countries. We are also very good at integration. And it's v sad that this is never acknowledge in debates on immigration.
New PISA data out England is now top ten in all three areas (reading, maths, science) and the second highest performing country outside of east Asia (after Estonia). This is a huge public policy success.

Some professional news: I have shifted into a new role at the FT as the paper’s Financial Investigations Editor. I’ll have even more scope to dig into the less salubrious nooks and corners of financial markets, while doing my best to follow the money on a broader range of subjects.

Another interesting piece from @jemima.bsky.social. She ends by touching on what I think will be the big theme of the next 12 months: the backlash against AI. “The more AI encroaches on our lives, the more I feel myself wanting to return to doing more effortful things.” Marketers, take note.
