I had a Dumbest Dystopia thread over on the old hellsite, so let's start another one A couple of dumb "AIs" taking down a site with no apparent human interaction certainly qualifies

itch.io@itch.io

I kid you not, @itch.io has been taken down by Funko of "Funko Pop" because they use some trash "AI Powered" Brand Protection Software called Brand Shield that created some bogus Phishing report to our registrar, iwantmyname, who ignored our response and just disabled the domain

Unreliable narrator stories are fun until you live through a global-economy tanking war between two sets of relentless liars both trying to influence a stock market full of investors who don't actually care what's true.

Yes prices have gone up so we're spending more We're also buying less This is generally thought of as a bad thing for a consumption based economy, which Hasset has always been a big proponent of

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Hassett: "The thing I've seen is that while people have been spending more money at gas stations, they've been spending more money on everything else, which means they're still very very optimistic about the state of the economy" (Consumer sentiment is actually at an all time low ... )

i cant believe tom steyer is the first dem politician (that ive seen) to proudly and forcefully make this correct and obvious counter argument to the bigotry but im glad he did

In this encyclical Pope Leo not only condemns slavery, praises the social sciences, and considers ethical treatment of computer intelligences but also compares truth to “a multifaceted polyhedron” blessed in its diversity. I believe the long-rum first D&D Pope theory just got a shoutout.

Actually understanding that high school sports is almost entirely about giving kids a place to grow as human beings and not "winning at all costs" immediately deflated the anti-trans discourse around trans athletes

Is this the clown equivalent of when media write stuff like "Comic books aren't just thwack, pow, biff any more", like are clowns reading this and getting really angry

Clowning isn’t just honk-honk: It’s the hottest comedic art. A report from the Eastside of Los Angeles, the center of the new scene.

Larry Ellison suddenly realizes that buying credibility for your propaganda network only works if you don't immediately trash that credibility in the most spectacular ways possible

Jeff Bezos should be taking notes, but his purchase of the WaPo was more of a "money from the couch cushions" purchase. Ellison gas been pumping real money into Paramount and needs that ROI

That's not what Colossal are doing, that's not what they did. I'm begging you to not fall for the latest bullshit from publicity-hungry techbros that'll have actual scientists facepalm AGAIN.

Rolling Stone@rollingstone.com

The science start-up Colossal is making sci-fi real! After resurrecting the dire wolf in 2025 using 72k-year-old DNA, they're eyeing the woolly mammoth for 2028. The goal: "rewilding" to restore and stabilize modern ecosystems. Read: bit.ly/4tIXAqo

LLM’s are, in a sense, genre-identifying machines. The literary terms ‘genre’ names something potentially statistically-identifiable - a basin or attractor in the field. The LLM’s success at pastiching a certain kind of postcolonial Caribbean prose shows that it’s become generic

Since the announcement of our union, Wizards of the Coast and Hasbro have hired Fisher Phillips (a union avoidance firm), and chosen to engage in a daily union-avoidance campaign by sending emails to the Arena team that is spreading misinformation and sowing fear among our colleagues. #uwotc-cwa

Today, miniatures are nearly always seen as gray plastic, but scholars postulate that they were originally meant to be covered in bright, vivid paint. Using sophisticated imaging techniques, researchers can reveal how these figures were possibly intended to appear:

Not only does telling a chatbot ‘do not hallucinate’ misunderstand how LLMs works, the idea that they are capable of following instructions is an illusion. At best, this just adds text to the context that may cause them to go down one path rather than another. But they don’t literally obey commands.

“I’m just so goddamn fed up with all this,” Gina Small, 29, said in a comment on the U.S. economy that one of her friends assumed was about the world’s ongoing humanitarian crises, another friend thought was about the weaponization of America’s military against its own people.

The CFO of Spindrift is complaining on LinkedIn about Anthropic's customer service. He recommends OpenAI because it allows you to "work with a human sales person." Unfortunately there's simply no broader lesson that a c-suite officer of a successful CPG brand might extrapolate from this preference.

At first you think "this is all he knows about China and its relationship to the US" and it's dumb enough Then it dawns on you that he's reading prepared remarks and a speechwriter wrote this for him and it gets worse

Trump: "Chinese restaurants in America today outnumber the five largest fast foods in the United States all combined. That's a pretty big statement."
