and if you’re asking, “what’s a sam haselby?” the answer is that he is a failed academic turned editor who spends his time being bitter about his stalled career, and lashing out against the women and minorities he blames for his shortcomings

i am going to say this again: Sam Haselby is a fucking liar who constantly pulls this stuff about people. fabricating positions and views that are easily disproved because in addition to being a liar he is incredibly lazy and none-too-bright

Its a real disappointment that there isn't a good gif of Benjamin Sisko explaining the linear nature of time. In general, events that occur in 2026 are not the causes of events in 2022.

I think one of the biggest signs of getting old is seeing people who get attention for political punditry trying to rewrite a time in history you lived through and which they weren't even born for. Bill Clinton's approval rating held around the 60% mark for the 2000 election. It peaked at 67%.

To the extent that people approved of the job he did but disapproved of him on a personal basis, the real reason that the country was ready to turn over the keys is that the two terms limit is good and is bought in by the public as a given. It should remain so despite an unpopular guy testing it.

This the skeleton key that explains the entire left-of-center political and informational environment. There is no social reward for ever saying anything nice about a mainline Democrat, so no one does. As a result, baseless antipathy towards the party completely pervades the environment.

Well, there's a photo I never expected to see in my life. Noam Chomsky palling around with Steve Bannon.

i mean i don't think you can separate any of this discussion from the fact that so many of the participants are men who clearly have hang-ups about their inability to perform a certain kind of blue collar masculinity

A lot of leftist commentators have a pathological desire to have their movement validated by a big white guy who has blue collar MAGA aesthetics but the politics of Bernie Sanders. First Fetterman and now Platner. Neither are actually of working class stock. Ironically neither are those pundits.

This post is unavailable.

Both Fetterman and Platner came from backgrounds that raised them comfortably middle class. Fetterman went to Harvard. Platner went to a private school and has an grandparent with a Wikipedia page as an architect.

A lot of punditry about excessive wokeness is that working out, physical fitness and blue collar culture got treated as if it is right-wing coded which hurt Dems with men in 2024 The problem is those saying it look like they've never stepped onto a football field or lifted a hammer in their life

Ro Khanna is extremely annoying how he tries to play the populist everydayman raging against the system on one hand while on the other hand being the congressman for Silicon Valley billionaires

There is actually an Official figure in the Census Bureau of the amount of people in poverty in 2024: It is 9 million fewer people than what Jacobin is saying in the first paragraph of this article.

Jacobin@jacobinmag.bsky.social

A new Census Bureau report establishes that poverty increased over the course of the Biden administration. The data is yet another rebuke to the politicians and commentators who insisted economic conditions under Joe Biden were great.

I'd have more respect for your desire to be Nate Silver if you owned up to the fact you used to be a supporter and praised Biden for being *effective* as president and now changed your mind rather than this mindless Biden derangement syndrome that acts like you were always raising the alarm bells

That account makes fun of tankies. The clue is in the name. Not every communist is a tankie - because the term refers to people who live in the west claiming to oppose imperialism and militarism - unless it's done by regimes who are anti-west. Like the USSR. If you're mad I guess it strikes a nerve

Lakshya Jain being a hack was confirmed to me when he tried to claim voter sentiment on the economy being so bad under Biden had nothing to do with the media forecasting a recession (which never came) but praised Reagan's handling of inflation even though he did have a recession (+10% unemployment)

Tankies will claim Ukraine's allies providing military aid is proof that Zelensky is just sacrificing his people in a proxy war for NATO yet North Korea providing soldiers for Russia to fight in Ukraine is never described as Kim Jong Un sacrificing his people in a proxy war for Russia

The distinction here is tankies support Russia's war in Ukraine and Kim Jong Un because their worldview is simply based on supporting whoever is against the west. They are mad Ukraine didn't roll over for Russia and they don't care North Koreans die for Putin if it leads to Putin winning the war

Taylor Lorenz is an extremely unlikeable individual and ultimately it comes down to her sheer narcissism of wanting to police everyone to a standard which she never meets herself. Coupled with her desire to be a Gen Z whisperer/social media influencer when in reality she is a hall monitor.

i would love people in the "putin is just a widdle guy" camp to actually contend with any of his actual rhetoric on ukraine since he invaded, or frankly treat russia with any agency in its dealings with its neighbors

Joe Stieb@joestieb.bsky.social

Sigh. Moyn is at it again with the straw men: "In this sense, Putin’s invasion has been treated in much the way many liberals have treated Trump’s rise—as an unprovoked aberration, an alien force from nowhere." Ok, show me one liberal who thinks this. harpers.org/archive/2025...

The people railing about Cowardly Liberals right now really don’t seem to understand how I bet at least 90% of the people who show up to protest would self-identify as if you asked them about their political beliefs

Biden failed at many things but he made a major break with Clintonite free trade and especially Obama's pint-sized stimulus policy and got basically no credit for it. Not Great for the prospects of future full employment

I think a lot of hard left accounts on here don’t fully realize the extent to which the center-left genuinely believes they made a good faith effort to reach out which was met with rejection, betrayal, and libel. You may not think it accurate or fair, but the belief is sincerely held.

How is a Vice article over a year before Joe Biden became president a good read of "vile things" Joe Biden did as president? How is this Vice article which features a fabricated quote attributed to Joe Biden proof of this when later in the article the author admits he is reaching?

Ken Klippenstein's entire shtick these days is to mock politicians for being too old to do the requirements of their jobs except when it is Donald Trump in which case he wants to shut down the conversation What a hack
