Major press failure: treating Jared Kushner taking foreign bribes and shaping US foreign policy as less relevant than Hunter Biden not taking bribes nor influencing policy. Covering Kushner accurately was considered partisan, biased. Lies about Hunter or his minor actions treated as more important.

The central issue in the US election and elections worldwide is corruption writ large-a system that only works to serve the rich at the expense of everyone else, a system in which politicians and the rich are in bed together and yet screwing the rest of us. Affordability and corruption are the same.

The political media is visibly chafing at the current situation, where Republicans are glaringly awful, fucking everything up, running deviant candidates everyone hates, and Dems are just being normal & winning. The allegations against Donald Trump for sexual assault seem to have a common denominator: He is physically violent and intentionally inflicts pain on his victims. He likes to slam women and girls up against doors and walls as he roughly manhandles them. Donald Trump is a sick and twisted person.

Another: take your pick for demands and restrictions on funding Executive Office of the President. Yes, literally defund the White House. EOP is the central hub of the assault on the Constitution.

Greg Sargent@gregsargent.bsky.social

Is all this really feasible? Won't Trump refuse to sign anything like this? Won't he litigate it? Won't it lead to government shutdowns? Yes, yes, and yes. But it's still absolutely doable and necessary. Here's why: newrepublic.com/article/2171...

Trump and Co. will try to steal the midterms. They're already trying. Gerrymandering, bad faith lawsuits, voter intimidation, and a whole lot of lies. But they don't have a genius secret plan. They're already doing whatever they can think of. And it's beatable. Shouldn't have to, but here we are.

Hungary's recent election was less free and more unfair than the upcoming US midterms, and pro-democracy forces still won. Similar point about Serbia's election this weekend. In normal democracy terms, America is in bad shape. But in consolidated authoritarianism terms, we're looking pretty good.

All the millions of tax dollars spent creating a structure to combat these trump-led onslaughts is a dollar that could have conceivably gone to something else and money that should not have to be spent in the first place and it would be completely irresponsible at this point to *not* spend those…

Yes. My median scenario is Trump rants, it becomes their talking point, DOJ probably files some more junk suits like these, but then not much else happens. There's real risk of worse, some full push to go insane on Jan 3, but more likely it doesn't get that far, and also that would still fail.

AK's had more notice but CA is more worrying. Equally insane and delusional as litigation, but CA tells us something: It doesn't have any close races so it's not about flipping a seat or two. There's only one reason to target CA: it has enough House seats to cover the margin of any Dem majority.
