Every now and then I see myself referred to as an "AI Denier" and I want to be clear I acknowledge "AI" exists, it's just I think it's a massive energy drain, created from theft, implemented poorly for inappropriate tasks by loathsome tech executives who get hard at the idea of the rest of us dying

Maybe there’s someone on here at YouTube or Google who can help Gil with this? Once upon a time, Twitter was useful for surfacing and solving issues like this but our networks have gotten incredibly fragmented since Twitter descended into its miasma of neo-Nazism and trollery.

Gil Durán@gilduran.com

In April, I was kicked off of X. Now, YouTube is threatening to delete the Nerd Reich podcast. Anyone have experience dealing with this kind of thing? It's clearly a coordinated campaign to kill our channel via false complaints, but it appears YouTube will nuke our channel in the next two days.

While officially labeled "Iranian Flu" by the US CDC, most virologists reject this moniker for the 2027 Flu Pandemic and point out that the first cases recorded cases actually originated among service members at McConnell AFB in Kansas.

The Washington Post@washingtonpost.com

Breaking news: The military will no longer require U.S. troops to receive the annual flu vaccine, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said, rolling back what he described as “overreaching mandates that only weaken our war-fighting capabilities.” https://wapo.st/4eAG2sx

The CEO of Palantir posted a fascist manifesto on X. I pointed out that it was fascist—which resulted in a permanent suspension from X (my second time!). So, when you hear the tweeters complaining that BlueSky is intolerant, remember why many of us came here in the first place.

yeah the damage a single bad billionaire can do wildly outstrips any positive impact even a theoretically ideal billionaire can have more, I think that the kind of person you need to be to become a billionaire tends to select for the worst outcomes in all but the rarest of cases

William B. Fuckley@opinionhaver.bsky.social

I think good billionaires exist. Dustin Moscovitz and Tom Steyer seem like relatively well-intentioned and decent people trying to use their money constructively. But the upsides of people like them don’t outweigh the downsides of someone like Elon Musk.

By the way, Gavin Newsom is apparently raising money to fight AGAINST the billionaire tax. So thoughtful of him to come to their aid at this particular time in history,

Journalist challenge: Use “Machine Learning” when you mean machine learning and “LLM” when you mean LLM. Ditch “AI” as a catch-all term, it’s not useful for readers and it helps companies trying to confuse the public by obscuring the roles played by different technologies. 🧪

Moral cowards, lacking core beliefs, can be pushed in any direction. An insight to keep in mind as the billionaire class calculates the optimal path through fascism.

Some tech fascists are true believers, but Marc Benioff's MAGA conversion is also an audition for government contracts. These craven men would bid to build the Death Star for Darth Vader. Mr. “Dreamforce” begs to augment the Nightmare Force of fascism. gift link: www.nytimes.com/2025/10/16/u...

Steve Silberman is so pissed about this Tylenol bullshit that he's screaming from the afterlife he didn't even believe in. Increased rates of autism are due to testing, a broadened definition, and greater awareness. It's not vaccines. It's not Tylenol. It's like his work never happened.

TLDR: Peter Thiel weaponizes Nazi philosophy and biblical scripture to reframe democratic opposition as cosmic evil—while building the surveillance state he claims to fear.

Gil Durán@gilduran.com

What’s up with Peter Thiel’s secret Antichrist lectures? Let us pierce the veil. For the @newrepublic.com I studied his past Antichrist speeches to decode his message—a chilling fusion of Nazi political theory and scripture. Consider this an urgent warning: newrepublic.com/article/2004...

The same people who complained that “wokeness” got people fired and ostracized over tweets … are currently demanding that people be fired and ostracized over tweets.

This idea that somehow rural areas underwrite metros is not only wrong, it’s entirely inverted — and yet it perversely animates basically every element of our current political life.

I don't really know how you don't look at the rise of illiberal reactionaries as *the* defining political trend of the Western World right now. People are reacting to the confusion and chaos of modernity by going into hysterics and trying to burn it down. So far, they're succeeding.

Traveling back to the US today so any further comment on this evening's events will wait until I'm on the other side of US border control. Six months ago, this would be a hyperbolic statement, and today I think we all know that it's not.

Bay Area reporters: - Remember: The plan to build new tech-run cities is called the Network State. The idea is based on Curtis Yarvin's infamous "patchwork" essay, which Balaji Srinivasan rebranded as the "Network State." "Freedom Cities" is propaganda branding. Don't buy it.

Gil Durán@gilduran.com

A company called "Frontier Valley" has declared it will build a new Network State zone on federal land in Alameda, California. Below: A "draft" presidential executive order that would have Trump declare a "national security emergency" to permit the project. PR stunt, or aggressive new phase?

ICE has only existed since 2003. A Bush-era creation, it is a militarized federal secret police that has been imbued with the Supreme Court with the unconstitutional power to ignore the fourth amendment. Abolishing it and salting the earth where it grew is the moderate stance.

I always find these threats amusing. I'm from the Midwest. That these guys think they are somehow tougher or 'harder than the people they would encounter when they got to LA is hilarious. But obviously what they are really threatening is to shoot people.

Screamer Jim@screamerjim.bsky.social

They’d find nothing, drive around confused and wind up throwing a confusing tantrum in the Van Nuys In N Out drive through like OC and IE chuds always do when people ignore them and nothing pops
