in 2028 I’m voting for whoever is willing to go scorched earth on these fascists and right now that’s Gavin Newsom

Sinclair, run by right-wing media mogul David Smith, says suspending the Jimmy Kimmel show isn’t enough. It is going to run a tribute to Kirk during Kimmel’s time slot. Sinclair stations will run not consider putting Kimmel back on air until he apologizes and donates to Turning Point USA

This is an insane reaction from MSNBC. Dowd said nothing wrong. We can lament and condemn violence while still acknowledging the (well-documented!) reality of Charlie Kirk’s career. Kirk was incredibly divisive and he did traffic in hatred against liberals, LGBTQ people, racial minorities, and women

Political analyst Matthew Dowd has been fired from MSNBC after his comments about the death of Charlie Kirk, Variety reports

Moderate voices in the US, particularly in the UK, need to recognise you can decry political violence, “offer sympathies” whilst also recognise that Kirk was a despicable person who touted extremist views and profited off the fear of minorities. It is possible to express these concurrent thoughts.

My main observation from the last few hours of monitoring US social media is that Democrats are universally denouncing political violence and calling for calm while MAGA are escalating language and openly lusting for retribution against broad categories of people they identity as their enemies.

/4 But it’s perfectly reasonable to point out that the people who will wave the bloody shirt over this — the people who support Charlie Kirk — are evil hypocrites who endorse and excuse violence every day. Refraining from celebrating doesn’t mean tolerating bullshit. bsky.app/profile/thre...

There’s an enormous amount of stuff in this book I’d like to highlight, but start with: “What emerges as the most elementary insight is that, since we do not now have any ways of making computers wise, we ought not now to give computers tasks that demand wisdom.”

i think one issue is that this approach has proven to be a total failure. a partisan who sees the right as morally deficient will have had a better track record at predicting the events of the last few years than someone who is endlessly trying to demonstrate their nuance.

really feels like housing affordability is one of the most important political issues of our time, affecting nearly every aspect of our lives, and everyday our mainstream political discourse is about whether sour cream is woke or not

The bosses all understood this is what voting for Trump was voting for. If youre a worker and you thought it was for cheaper groceries or lower rent or access to burrito taxis or whatever you got conned

The unemployment rate among recent graduates has been increasing this year to an average of 5.3%, compared to around 4% for the labor force as a whole, making it one of the toughest job markets for recent graduates since 2015, according to the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.

That's right, blame God, not years of Republican mismanagement at the state and federal levels which recently accelerated.

once more, with feeling: conservatives have principles beyond their narrow pecuniary interest and vote accordingly, just like liberals do—it's just that conservatives' non-pecuniary values suck

People who ask "what's the matter with Kansas" need to also ask "what's the matter with Portland", where materially comfortable professionals vote to raise their own taxes to pay for public housing and free preschool they will never use

Two decades of bedwetting over a country that has some mix of a lack of firepower and good sense not to engage the US in major conflict. Just what have we been doing here.

I think this is Iran's attempt to be done with it. They gave warning and it was not a large attack, as it goes.

You're allowed to advocate for white supremacy in the classroom because controversial ideas should be taught! people aren't made of glass snowflake! Also if someone says slavery's legacy persists into the present that's traumatic for white kids and it should not be allowed bsky.app/profile/anth...

This might be the most appalling thing Blackman has written. In what world would a white nationalist paper that treats history reductively, rehashes old Redeemer talking points, and leans into racist tropes of old for use in our time, deserve an “A” in any circumstance? reason.com/volokh/2025/...

honestly does seem like the basic dynamic in american politics right now is that a critical number of voters treat Democrats like their (nagging) mom or their (bitch) wife and treat Republicans like the “cool” dad or husband who is at best a deadbeat

extremely cucked behavior allowing Israel to sabotage our treaty negotiations with Iran with no repercussions. for all his posturing, Donald Trump is an incredibly weak president.

Newsom could stop Trump from calling up the National Guard. He has not done so. Democrats should remember this in 2028.

Governor Gavin Newsom@governor.ca.gov

The federal government is taking over the California National Guard and deploying 2,000 soldiers in Los Angeles — not because there is a shortage of law enforcement, but because they want a spectacle. Don't give them one. Never use violence. Speak out peacefully.
