‘Last night of the pogroms’

GB News is launching GB Music Radio, a 24-hour digital station only playing artists from Great Britain and Northern Ireland, on 2 November. Chief revenue officer Ross Sergeant said this "gives advertisers something genuinely new". radiotoday.co.uk/2026/10/gb-m...

I was so thrilled and honoured to be invited to share a story at the @storycollider.bsky.social event at Imperial College earlier this year. So I decided to tell a story about being a storyteller.

Apparently, you can be creative OR you can be a scientist. Pick a lane. 🙄🔬 At least, that’s what Kat Arney grew up believing after her mom decided creativity just wasn’t in the cards for her. Hear what happens when Kat starts questioning the plan 👉 https://ow.ly/LlQx50ZQp5Z

Angel tube station is absolutely cooked and might have to close, Transport for London's maintenance backlog is causing big trouble. (And other stories.)

I've done two back to back days of industry conferences (TechBio and ELRIG) and feel like I've come back from a whole long weekend at Glasto. A sad indictment of my current stamina.

If this guy was the baddie in a movie, people would say he's a lazy stereotype. There's a theory that people build technologies inspired by the science fiction they consumed as children. This current generation of techno-villains seem to be modelling themselves straight out of 90s comic books.

The Green Party need to kick out the antisemites and get back to what the party was supposed to be all about: Opposing solar farms and high speed rail.

My friend @mjrobbins.com has produced an outstanding new video which is, in a very literal sense, a massive pile of garbage. It’s like You Can See Everything but with rampant methane and bureaucratic inertia instead of Nathan Fielder and Elizabeth Holmes. Behold the Rainham volcano!

Martin Robbins@mjrobbins.com

New film out, on the extraordinary, 20-year saga of the Rainham Volcano.

Important addition to Sandwich Discourse. Mayo is extremely underrated for many many cooking applications. Mix it with some flavours, use it to stick breadcrumbs onto fish. Air fryer. Nom.

Try using mayonnaise on the outside before frying/grilling.

Chernobyly was so good that when it ended I was sad we would not be spending any more time in that world with those characters. Although the concept of the Chernobyl Extended Universe is pretty fucking bleak, I guess.

Castle. It was silly and sexy and funny and I have the massive hots for Nathan Fillion and it got progressively more miserable and rubbish, and the leads clearly hated each other. Devastated 💔

What TV show got so bad it effectively destroyed your appreciation for the show when it was was good?

NO. DO NOT DO THIS. Do NOT think about The Event and under NO circumstances attempt to relive The Event. This may cause DISTRESS and CONFUSION. REMAIN INDOORS.

IMO, the issue is not the monetary contribution, it's that an awful lot of people conflate fun activities that you do in your spare time as also being the same thing in terms of work, as in - not *real* work Games are enjoyable activities you do on the evenings and weekends with your mates

Jim Rossignol@rossignol.bsky.social

This gets said constantly, but it worth reiterating: Games Workshop being bigger than fishing is important to shout about because you wouldn't know it from government talking points, which are rarely about anything creative or artistic. Growth won't involve fish or steel, it will involve goblins.

Today marks the 25th anniversary (😯) of our publication on discovery of FOXP2. To commemorate, I’ll repost a few prior threads about the gene. Here’s my explainer of how we tracked down FOXP2 & implicated it in speech/language deficits, in the days before completion of the human genome project.🗣️🧬🧪👇

Twenty-four years ago today, our paper “A forkhead-domain gene is mutated in a severe speech and language disorder” was published: www.nature.com/articles/350.... A personal thread about the ups & downs of the journey we took to get to that point....1/n 🗣️🧬🧪

New phrase I learned this week: Slop Grenade. A big ol' piece of AI generated shite that someone drops into a project that takes more time to interpret/fix than would have been needed to just do the thing the old-fashioned way.

Another time, a client "helpfully" did the first draft of the script for a 60-second animation using AI. It was over a thousand words, with more scenes than a Marvel movie. I think I used about 6 words from it in end.

AI is brilliant for a lot of things, but without understanding whether what it's giving you is a) correct or b) good it's not really helping at all. Fed up of seeing stuff that is 10x longer than it needs to be, looks like words but says nothing.

Case in point: a client is merging with another company whose comms team used AI to write the press release. Between us, the client and I have spent hours turning it from a load of overly-long repetitive dull verbiage into a tight 400 word story.
